Are these lights supposed to wake you up before the alarm element of it, as mine isn't!
Not sure. Mine goes from no light to full brightness between 6.15 & 6.30am. I don't use the alarm feature, but have an old tablet connected to a micro-stereo with Aux input, both of which have clock/timer features. I wake to internet radio, usually from the US, like Radio Paradise, so nice mellow muzak, no DJs or advertising, & not too loud. Sometimes I'll try a different station for variety. I swear by it!MitchT said:

Loads of cures out there ...
In the absence of an outright cure I find the occasional use of this to be a great tonic Warning! A little on the NSFW side ...

I think moving to Miami maybe a good cure.
I've lived all over the UK and suffered different levels of SAD. I moved forever further north, ending up in Scotland for four years. This is where my SAD was at it's worst. The long winter nights didn't help but the thing that really affected me was the sunny winter days when the sun only just made it over the horizon as apposed to getting higher in the sky: it always felt like time for bed rather than midmorning or so.I moved back to South Devon 18 months ago and I feel much better. I appreciate not everyone can move 500 miles south
SAD lights and lighting in general are quite important. Make sure your home and work space are well lit. In the absence of natural sunlight, anything that simulates it will help.
Check your lighting at home. It's great to have subdued "mood" lighting in the evenings, but you want crisp bright light to invigorate you in the mornings and daytime. Much easier now with LED bulbs.
I use a wake up light. I also have a SAD light in the office. I have it on all year round but during the particularly dark days I move it directly onto my desk for a few minutes per day.

No is the answer according to NHS website:
"Your body can't make vitamin D if you are sitting indoors by a sunny window because ultraviolet B (UVB) rays (the ones your body needs to make vitamin D) can't get through the glass."
Time to get that sunroof/windows open as much as possible whilst driving. Also am changing my lifestyle to walk to walk one stop further away from the office to catch some vital rays.

I have one of these in my home office,

Cheap enough to give it a try if you spend long periods in one room.

So as to avoid having the 'talk' with the GP vitamin D supplements are on the horizon.
There are two types of D apparently, any recommendations?
Might as well get in a multivitamin if I can.

Couple of these a day. http://www.vitabiotics.com/shop/ultra/vitamin-d?gc...
More than it says on the box but at one point this year the doctor had be on 5000iu a day. My levels were 11 'vitamin d's' or whatever it is . Aparently they should have been between 40 and 60.
I can pretty much instantly feel when I havent taken them.
Specifically D3 for me as well, the general multivitamin/standard vit D stuff doesnt hit the bits that I need it to. I buy 10,000iU tablets from Amazon, they really help with motivation as well.
Also, ETA - if you're say infront of a screen all day, recalibrate it and knock the blue down by a quarter. It'll look weird at first but you'll get more used to it. If it's too green, knock the green down. It's in System/Display/Calibrate screen
