Not advocating drink driving, although now I have moved to the country, where there is little or no public transport, it would appear that everyone on the roads is pi55ed bar me, as I commute home late at night.

Been here a year now and I just don't go out to pubs, not just the cost of cabs it's also the fact that they are either pretty unreliable, or that there is only one taxi per village.

My rule of thumb has always been a pint or a glass of wine, maybe an extra little glass if I'm out eating. If I have a pint at lunchtime I can really feel it's effects but in the evening I can have 3 before getting merry.

I'm going on a date tonight (2nd) and we are meeting at a pub equidistant from both our homes. The village it's in is about 10 miles away. She's driving, so no point me shelling out £40 in cab fares just so I can have a few drinks and turn into a babbling slurring wreck whilst she sips her lime and soda.

So, leads me to the point of this, I looked up various sites that supposedly work out how much you can drink before you are at the limit, or rather until you are still sober enough to drive.

http://www.rupissed.com/ I chose this one as it takes age, gender, weight and height into account.

Now according to the above, if I have a double Scotch (Calm the nerves) when I arrive at 7pm, and then a glass of wine with dinner, I'll be clear, ie 0.00% by 11pm kicking out time.

What amazes me is that if I were to have a double whisky and 3 large glasses of wine, it calculates that I'll be a smidge under 0.08% by 11pm, which I believe is the UK drink drive limit.

I'd be sloshed on that and no way would I be in any decent shape to drive, especially on fast dark windy country lanes, but does this mean that there are plenty of pi55ed up drivers out there who are legal, just?

Would explain a lot.

Maybe you shouldn't drink anything then you're 100% guaranteed not to be over the limit, it's becoming more of the norm now that if you're driving then you drink zero alcohol.

Good point and one I normally stick to. Had to endure a dinner party the other day that I'd driven to, desperate to drink and join in, but of course I didn't.

I can't see how after drinking a double whiskey and 3 large glasses of wine anyone could possibly be legal to drive the same day, let alone 4/5 hours later.

That site is absolute rubbish, and so are the breathalysers advertised on it!

Up here in Scotland now I, and many friends, just don't drink if driving later that evening. And very very careful for the day after even when we've 'only' had 2 or 3 pints in an evening.

Try this in Scotland and see how far you get, its not even worth having a pint now.

But if you do get caught, ask for a blood test when you get to the station not the blower. This seems to be the norm on police dramas and the suspect always passes it by the time they have a trained nurse there after you've drunk mountains of water.

I went to a party once where one lad was a copper and had brought along his breathalyzer for a laugh. I assumed the thing must have been way out of calibration (and that he'd probably have got a bking if work knew he'd taken it to a party) as it was showing me under the limit when I was several drinks past where I'd consider driving.

I tend to only have one pint if I'm driving (maybe 1.5 if I'm having a meal too) but stick to soft drinks if I'm on the bike.

I dread to think how many people must be still well over the next day.

I know when we were young, we'd do the designated driver bit and be sensible, but most of us drove for a living and we'd all be working from 8am or earlier the next day.

It's a bit odd the site uses a different unit to the ones stated by the legislation.

I wouldn't even have one drink and drive ... or work it and seen the aftermath on too many occasions
