Junior Huntsman is coming up to 1 year old, he's a big lad for his age, now far too big for his baby bath, so we put him in the bath in a couple of inches of water.

He loves it, smiling and laughing and splashing about, but he's manic!! Jumping, diving, trying to stand, it takes one of us to hold him and one to wash him, to be honest, its impossible to hold him while slippery and we'e frightened hes going to bash his swede.

He's not going to drown as we are right there with him, but a head bash seems a real risk.

How do others bath the baby?

I used to put a rubber sticky non slip mat on the bath surface when my one was that little. Makes a slip in the bath much less likely and some cushion on the deck should it happen.

Thanks all. that bath seat is only up to 10kgs and Piglet is now abour 13kgs. (He's a big lad!!)

Not only is bathing a wriggling drama, removing nappies is now an exercise in controlled escape.

We've got our handsfull!

I always used to get in the bath with my two when they were little. Easier to wash them and you're on hand to save any slips.

Our youngest has just passed one year. Tried a couple of bath chair type things including the one pictured but she didn't like them much.

So has been bathing in the main tub for a while now. A bath mat is pretty much essential. She does move about and stand but doesn't sound as busy as OP's baby.

Not sure there's much else you can do, just supervise/risk assess/manage the hazards as best you can.

Your son sounds like our son at bath time smile

We have a bath mat with a seat within, like this http://www.mothercare.com/supports-and-mats/mother...

He's at an age now where he climbs out of it, but it certainly helped for a while.

Others suppliers are available !!

my two are 27 & 24 now, however have a very clear memory of using an old style rubber mat with suction pads on underside, worked an absolute treat

Providing little legs has the ability to sit upright this may be the answer to your dilemma

11 month old, big bath, anti slip May and 5-6inches of water. She loves it, we've bathed her this way for the past 3-4 months.

We have a non-slip matt with suction pads that covers the entire length of the bath (a tenner from Amazon).

Our boy, now 16 months, likes to move around quite a bit but at least the matt gives him a good base with lots of grip.

I just kneel beside the bath and make sure he doesn't do anything too crazy. Same approach when he was younger although maybe a bit more effort required to catch falls/trips.

I wouldn't buy one of those seats, sounds like he wouldn't stay in it. Get a non-slip matt and be there to stop any mayhem... it'll be fine.

Er. Yeah, I'm 6ft 3" and 18 stone...

Sounds like we'll just have to keep hold of him! Nurses said he was wriggler when he was still in the incubator!

Definitely this. Nothing teaches better than pain. My 4 year old insisted on doing the stairs unaided at 18 months old. D,dum,d,dum,d,dum,d,dum,d,dum down he came. Never again.

We just bought a bigger baby bath. She's coming up to two and still fits comfortably. As a bonus it means we don't have to wait an age for the bath to fill.

We also do this. Don't think we have ever had anything close to an accident.

My wife was upset to come home and find me holding the baby with a finger in each nostril and swooshing him through the bath water. "That's not how you bath a baby!" she screamed.

I replied "it is when the water's this fking hot".

Badum-tish.
