I'm covered in psoriasis, and I still take our one year old to the local pool. To begin with I was worried about people staring, but soon realised that people are far more interested in how they look that how others look.

Just go swimming - no-one cares what you look like. smile

Nobody cares at the pool, honestly. Especially a council pool, as there's no elitism around paying for a membership, they welcome all.

However, swimming is a great sport for losing flab, very good all round workout, so stick at it!

Most of the women will be far too worried about if they look fat to care if you do.......

Go do something lovely with your son, that is what the mothers will be thinking.

I wouldn't worry about it, 90% of people in the uk are fat, just own it.

So you're a new dad, taking your baby to the pool?
Everyone will be too busy "ahhhhhh-ing" to care what you look like.
This!!!

Plus, who cares what other people think. We've all seen someone who's a bit podgy right? I'm not skinny, albeit not vastly overweight but I have a bit of a belly. To be honest, unless someone who looks like they had to have the side of their house taken off to get there strolls in, no one is going to give two sh!ts.

I've started swimming a lot more recently. I don't really notice what shape people are, but I do notice how much faster than me they are!!

If I was female, I would wear one of those old-school one piece swimsuits that covered everything up between my crotch and neck, and that would be that - I could happily bob about the water like an amorphous blob.

But as I'm male, the best on offer only covers up my genitals and the tops of my legs - which are of least concern to me.
.
Could you wear one of the female one piece swim suits and pretend you're a woman?

Try one on at home first and if it's not convincing get a cap and goggles?

Just enter the swimming pool slow enough to not create a tidal wave and you'll be fine.

And really, you shouldn't give a flying fk what anybody else thinks anyway. You're having quality time with your baby, anybody looking down their nose at you isn't worth wasting any thoughts on.

Go. Enjoy. Great bonding with the kids too. Don't give a st about what anyone thinks.

I found it an easy route to exercising more and weight loss (over 10kg / 22lb)

Hi Op

If it concerns you there are many private pools available for just this sort of thing.

Don't know from your profile where you're located but here's one near me -

No one cares, 90% of the people in the pool will have body confidence issues of their own, even if they more minor compared to yours. And once you're in the water most of your body won't be visible anyway.

Don't expect to loose any weight going swimming with a baby though, you just tend to float about holding them, you won't get any opportunity to do any calorie burning swimming. And that won't really change until the kids are old enough to swim a length completely unaided.

Personally i would wear a t shirt and swim shorts. This appears to be catching on for people out of shape and a few do it at my local pool.

I would also consider your long term health and lose some weight longer term, cant be good for your esteem or your childs when they grow up, hopefully you want them to be like you when they grow up and see you as a role model.

That being said, once youre in the water few people will notice and many will be fat themselves.

Good luck

Ill stick my neck out and disagree with othhers on here. Yes, it would be nice, in a way, if people didnt notice or care but just like in many walks of life people will notice.

The kind thing to say is that no one will notice, theyll be cooing over your child and so on but i personally feel that the harsh reality is people will notice, your child may get bullied at school if their parent is fat, you will feel bad about it and so on. Thats not my views, thats the truth of what happens in daily life, rightly or wrongly.

People are often a little too PC, sorry if that causes offence, its not meant to smile
