Count me in. Need to get back on it properly. At the start of 2014 I was 85kg, by mid 2014 I had managed to get down to 74kg. Fell off the wagon and a year later I was up to 80kg. Weighed myself towards the end of December 2016 and I was back to my original weight of 85kg.

I'm 5'10" and wear all my weight on my gut annoyingly. I turn 30 in August so using that as motivation to finally sort my st out.

1380 calories? That's way too low for a grown adult isn't it?

1500 kcals tends to work for me after a week or so of having discipline in feeling hungry.

You've been kick starting with some fairly intense fasting haven't you? You may be going hard early on this one.

Good for short term "wow I've lost weight" but not sustainable or healthy, if you add any major excercise to your routine when not used to it

Hit the bike or gone for a run every evening this week and feeling much better for doing it. Also seem to be sleeping better so not sure if that ties in with actually burning some energy rather than just sitting at my desk for 10 hours a day.

Also managed to eat better and smaller portions so that might be helping. What I was eating seemed to be OK but the portion size seems to have been the killer for me.

back to 15.10, 2/3 pounds heavier than pre Christmas lightest.

Not doing much exercise as struggling with my back, but still walking a couple of miles at night, saw a shooting star last night, made my day, was amazing.

Not bothering with breakfast, would normally force a bowl of porridge down about now but just hang on for lunch, got pasta with pesto, pine nuts, chicken, cherry tomatoes and cheese, so decent amount of calories, that keeps me going until Dinner, had a piece of Dark chocolate and a bit of Yoghurt last night plus a decent bowel of Spag Bol, nice healthy version, no seconds, no garlic bread these days like used to and its plenty.

I used to massively overshoot portion wise, eating too quickly and thinking "I am a big lad, I need loads", guess what, I dont, pint of water with it and cutting out the seconds and bread is probably 500 cals saved, those extras would just make me feel over full and make no difference between then and my next meal, so just useless calories that went round my gut, give it a few mins between finishing and seeing if you want more before getting any, amazing how you dont, focus in on and use that mechanism, our brains really dont catch up very quick with our bellies, even when I get home and eat something as ravenous before dinner, even something small stops the appetite, beware the "Im Hungry", calorific overshoot !

I limited myself to 1380 last time round. This time I've gone for a more managable 1960

What we need to see is what 2000 calories look like. In steak form is my preference.

As yet, no food consumed, just 250ml of water from a Voss bottle (its tap water but don't tell anyone).

Tuna with cream cheese and cucumber for lunch today. I can see meal plannning coming to help to stop me being lazy and chinning a pizza and garlic bread of an evening.

13:00 update

Photo for proof. Sliced beef was reduced.

I think there is a tendency to assume losing weight will be purgatorial and is a punishment, it doesnt need to be, 1380 calories for an adult male would come under that category for me.

You still need to eat, and you can still enjoy food, if the weight loss is sustainable it cant be misery inducing, and if you have a cheat, go back to it, dont just think sod it.

Its a case of having less calories and using them wisely, not starving, that never works, well it does but it leaves you wrecked.

Food for me has never really been an issue, my diet is generally very good and I rarely eat crap, takeaways etc, apart from over Christmas where it all went out of the window as I was also off work for 2 weeks so the temptation was ever present.

Breakfast is always 3 eggs scrambled (no toast, I try and avoid bread), lunch is always an apple, banana, satsuma and a home made salad of leaves, tomatoes, onion, pepper and chicken with a bit of mayo and an evening meal is usually something home made, breakfast and lunch is only 584 calories combined.

I was very good until November ish when I started to get back into raiding the biscuits at work, before you know it you have munched through 500 calories just by eating a handful of chocolate hobnobs.

At work I drink black coffee or water.

I guess it all depends on your normal eating habits and your lifestyle. Back when I was sticking to 1380 I worked a simple IT desk job which took very little effort to perform. I was working evenings so I could hit the gym hard during the day and eat an extra few hundred calories. Now I work standard office hours and deal with more crap so by the time I get home it's a chore to drag myself to the gym and I inevitably find myself wanting to eat more during the day. That's why I've gone for 1960 as the limit this time. Only go over that if I've burnt off a minimum of 1000 calories in the gym.

What annoys me with trying to do this is how different I can feel on different days despite doing the exact same things.

Today - 4 weetabix for breakfast at 8am, nothing else so far and feeling fine.

Yesterday - same breakfast, DYING by 12pm so ate a chunky (500calorie frown) sandwich and bag of crisps!

It's never too late! We never leave anyone behind on this thread.

Cycled yesterday and went for the first run in years at lunch. 3.2 miles in an agonising 40 minutes.

Have used the excuse to have a nice bit of soup and couple of chacutrie rolls on wholemeal bread. Still have 1000 calories in the bag for dinner on that basis. Spiffy.

My hurdle will be discipline. As said above, its about being sensible rather than full on monk like self denial.

The thing is, and I know people will say 'it does no nutritional good, its empty calories...etc etc

The thing is, I LIKE pizza, I LIKE biscuits. I drink red wine because it is really nice.

I just need to get in to the mindset that it is a treat, not everyday. Which is I think where I fall down usually.

rest day and sensible eating tomorrow. Then on Saturday I will do 90-100 minutes on the bike - so that's 900-1000 calories. So I will stop off at my favourite local coffee shop and have an Americano (fortunately black is my preference so no denial there) and their lovely meaty breakfast bap - which I have been having impure thoughts about all week. (It's run by a recently retired professional rugby player, so whilst its not exactly a salad its not as damaging as it sounds)

So that's my nice treat.
