Are any of you guys calorie counting? If so what are you doing?

What is working for everyone?

Calorie counting for me, Target 1800-2000 cals p/day with an aim to get +170g protein (not too bothered about the carbs and fats, I find if I'm under the calories I lose weight anyway smile)

I also don't eat back my gym/exercise calories.

Started off on low carb but I find the IIFYM easier to stick by.

Yep its the only thing that works.

My fitness pal. 1500 a day. Works well so far just need to make sure to log everything religiously.

I'm not part of this thread, but yes, I'm calorie counting. It's the only way to track it accurately when you're in a position where you don't want to just lose weight, but also retain some muscle (what there is of it).

I'll give a slightly more round picture:

32 years old
2300 calories per day, including around 160+g protein and 60+g fats
Weights 3/4 times per week
'Proper' cardio 1/2 times per week
Walk at least 1 hour per day, normally 2
Walk more at the weekend

Means I lose it at the rate of about 0.8kg per week, which works for me.

Weight is up and down at the moment, not consistent. I guess that has something to do with inconsistent diet!

Started to feel a little ropey yesterday, like I was coming down with something. Woke up this morning feeling terrible but forced myself to the gym (with a little help from cold and flu tablets) - session didn't go too badly, decent 500 calorie burn but I'm now starting to feel crappy again, joints aching and generally a bit warm.

Best keep my nutrition in check If I'm forced off the gym for a couple of days!

Get on the Vitamin C supplements and Lemsip sharpish! Lots of nasty bugs going round at the minute.

I've just had a chest infection wipe me out for 10 days, and I'm not someone who gets ill very often.

Great advice, luckily the guy next to me in the office has some vit C tablets in his draw so I've just nabbed a couple. See how it goes.

Probably a total placebo, but when I was feeling rough when I was away recently, I took zinc tablets and got a decent sleep, and was fine the next day.

These days I take my multivitamins religiously, and it keeps me right. Again, it may be a placebo, but I've noticed I generally do a lot better because of this. I take decent multivitamins which have some important things in there like magnesium and zinc.

In at 129.0kg this morning so a total loss of 12.5 kg which is just shy of 9% in total. Could have done better, particularly with the diet but I would probably have gone crazy so very happy with it!

Footy once a week, walking for 45 mins at lunch and running 2/3 times a week now the weather is getting better so hopefully it continues.

Any loss is a win, still have to enjoy life in the meantime, keep it up !

irritating plateau for me since friday. Its so annoying that even the slightest relaxation in diet* stalls my progress so much. I have a trip with work this weekend which will mean it will be very difficult to maintain diet (foreign country where I don't speak the lingo, restaurants etc), so I know that this time next week i'll be lucky if i weigh the same now, with it more likely that I will weight more :-(

  • i'm not counting calories, but avoiding all the obvious things (cakes, biscuits et), having no booze, lean cuts of meat, lean mince, fish. All meals from scratch. Am still having carbs though (e.g a bread roll with soup) or jacket potato and beans.

edited to add - a thread in the "food and drink" section almost tempted me into corned beef at the weekend until i noticed on the packet the fat content!

I (sort of) understand removing/reducing carbs, but why reduce your fat? There is a plethora of evidence which shows that fats are fairly important.

im no expert, but i reckon the 20% or so in corned beef was a bit excessive

I'd concur... Okay for an occasional thing, but not great really.

On the rare occasion I eat anything pre-made (oven chips, etc), I always look for the ones under 5%.

Been hungry today, just lapsed and had a bag of crisps, Salsa and three slices of beef.

Think it is because I am cycling in to work, did my normal seven miles in and then 10 on a slightly longer loop on the way back, at a pretty decent pace, 15 to 22 mph, just not sure how many calories that would use compared to driving in ?

Some of the online calcs say over 1000 calories, can it be that much ? I sort of think perhaps 500 - 600 ?

Road bike is a revelation after months of Mountain bike.

Lots of plateauing right now, keep strong chaps the 3 months are nearly up!

101.03kg for me this morning - on first glance this looks like a pretty non-descriptive number but in fact its the first time I've ducked under 16st (15st 12.75lb). Very happy with this, however, a little concerned its coming off too quick since that indicates a 3lb loss in the last week, I consider this either too much or not 'true' weight loss e.g. an amount is water. Hopefully it will settle back down to 1-2lb p/week, possibly try upping my calories a little each day.

It's been somewhat of a revelation this weight loss since it's showed me that I can eat a varied and balanced diet, with the occasional 'bad' meal' and still lose weight through cutting back daily calories. As I've mentioned previously, I've always subscribed to the low carb camp in losing weight but it's far from easy (although I still don't eat bread, pasta, chips etc. purely down to the bloated feeling after).
