I need new glasses as mine are so scratched I can barely see through them! I've converted to contacts, so only really use glasses a couple of days a week.

I've used Vision Express for my eye tests, but glasses there are very expensive. I've looked at Pretavoir and the glasses I want, including 1.67 lenses are only £150! However, I'm somewhat worried by online purchasing as I can't get my PD from Vision Express.

I'm a little tempted to use the opticians in John Lewis, as they have what I want, but are £230. Cheaper than Vision Express, but significantly more than buying online.

Where do you get your glasses from?

Costco are pretty good if they have what you want.

Local opticians - but I'd say the prices you've quoted were cheap.

Having had a massive falling out with an online supplier (who say they will supply glasses directly) over the piss poor standard of finish on their products (sharp edges left on from the casting, sharp ends left on the nylon filament on the bottom of some rimless) I would use absolutely anyone else.

I am only looking for basic frames, and my prescription isn't too bad (-4.00). Prices above are for basic RayBans and 1.67 lenses. Better frames would obviously be far more!

Specsavers here too. I don't buy any of the add-ons, just basic specs. At their prices I can afford to bin them if/when they get scratched. My normal glasses are 2 for £75 (or was it £90? I forget.) One pair are getting a bit tired, 2 years in the second have come out to play. I have reading glasses, these were the £25 cheapo range, work fine. No sprung sides so the arms flap about. Given that they go in my shirt pocket at work, spending maybe as much as £40 might be better in due course.

My basic pres. is short sight, about 3 or 4 each eye, +astig, +prism on R. This is my daily wear, driving the car spec, while the reading ones are the same with a bit of mag. now that I'm an old git. I'm not prepared to go varifocal yet.

If you know the model you want just google it and buy them online.

For your pd ask the person that did your eye test to measure it.

Spex4less. Not the cheapest of the online suppliers but I have always had great service from them and they have a no quibble returns
Policy.

Vision Express won't give it out as it's not part of a prescription.

If you're happy to send us a spare pair of glasses, our lab equipment can determine your PD.

I noticed that, in part is it to sabotage you going else where for glasses?

Almost certainly.

It just means I will go elsewhere for everything now though, and never use them again.

Specsavers but only because I get free eye tests through work and money off specs. Before I worked there Leightons were always good, too.

Vision Express for me, but then I wear glasses all the time and I want to do my utmost to ensure a proper eye test and proper decent quality frames and lenses.

Yes, I could probably get it cheaper on line, and yes it might be just as good quality. It might not though, I feel reassured that the people at VE are 'proper' people with proper kit.

And to be honest, a pair of glasses probably lasts me a couple of years, and then carries on as a spare pair. In the grand scheme of things, it's not a lot for something that gets used so much and is so important.

Maybe it's different if you only wear glasses occasionally or the correction is slight.

Glasses direct. Always have some kind of offer on. Bought my last 3 sets from there. Never normally more than £40 for the style I like including lenses.

Another vote for Specsavers here.
Can't fault them for service and price etc.

Normally use specsavers but a friend used asda and it was a lot cheaper so going to give them a try, with specsavers the headline price is good but it quickly builds when you add any extras.
