So sadly this is one thread where MX5 wasn't the answer.
Ha, it’s only part of the answer. My mum has been in hospital 5 weeks now, with advanced heart failure. She was originally going to have Open heart surgery but they didn’t think she’d live through the life support post op. They have now done what they can by keyhole surgery, 3 ops, which will at least give her a few more months.
My dad is disabled and only my little sis, a single parent, lives close, so I have been going back and forth, 3 hours each way as often as I can. I am so wrung out. Everything hurts and my Achilles have both flared up due to the heat and extra walking.
My two kids are being extra stressful too, with all the disruptions to routine. And my OH is sick.

Nice to hear the car is helping
Thanks. It’s quite churlish, I feel, to come on here to grumble like I do, but I often don’t have any other outlet. It allows me to keep my st together a little longer in day to day life.
Hi mate, have you ever thought about doing weight lifting? I'm not a body builder by any stretch of the imagination, but it really helps me a hell of a lot. I actually do it as much for its depression alleviating properties than I do for actual looks. Every time I do a session (just half an hour 2 or 3 times a week) I feel so much happier afterwards. It's also good when you can see that you're getting a bit stronger every week.
When I couldn't do it a while back due to injury I felt myself getting depressed again. I honestly think its one of the best forms of exercise you can do, and you really don't have to be lifting extremely heavy or following a massively restrictive diet.
Give it a go. If you have a spare room just pick up some dumbells, a bar bell, some plates a bench and some form of squatting rack, you can probably pick these up cheap off gumtree or the like and then you have everything you need.

I have considered weight lifting but there’s no room for any kit in the house. Also my youngest recently nicked grandad’s old dumbbells and managed to throw them at me during a meltdown. Her aim is bloody good. My bruises not so good. So at the moment I am keeping this kind of stuff out of the house.
So one for the future if I can get to the gym

You could also do body weight exercises, but i didn’t stick to those, as I prefer actually lifting something.
If you could get down the gym you could use the machines. There were a few older gents in the gym I went to who looked to be in good shape using the machines, and it was only about £17 a month. If you’re pressed for time, you can still get excellent results going twice a week.

Yikes, I am going to try a parkrun or two first! Maybe a marathon later on ...
I read you have trouble with Achilles etc but a Parkrun is a great, free way of getting excercise,Not sure if you've tried it but there are everyone from about 8 to 80, all shapes and sizes and fitness from serious runners to Mr/Ms blobby.
You'd be surprised sometimes how quick the Blobbies are!
I'm 65 started Parkruns 18 months ago after a 30 year lay off from running and love it. Only thing is make sure you start on a simple fairly level one.
Catterick is virtually level around the race course
Darlington a little prettier through the trees with a couple of slight inclines
Oban is like fell running on tarmac!
I believe the Liverpool one starts on the beach.

Thanks, I am planning on starting back with running today, Achilles be dammed. I feel like a caged animal and really need to let off some steam.
[the rest of the rant removed - I went for a run and feel a fair bit better now]
You really do sound like you're under too much stress, I hope the exercise helps.[the rest of the rant removed - I went for a run and feel a fair bit better now]

Cycling is great if impact is painful?

I am in week 9 of couch to 5k. I also managed a family weekend away, planned around yet another charity stunt I signed up for. And no major child related distasters happened (although one was then too ill to go to school).
Overall I do feel better which is a good thing as my life still feels like a bit of a disaster.
I am dead chuffed about running, though. It’s a good quick pick me up. And so far the old injuries are merely rumbling on, not getting worse

Ha! Less than 2 weeks after this post, I ruptured something and am now waiting for a scan. I decided it was best to stop running for a bit, although I have been swimming once a week instead. I miss running. What an absolute arse.
I have been hanging out a lot on the depression thread these last few weeks, partly as things also went downhill with the kids. I think reality has started to bite for my youngest, and now she's 6 weeks into secondary school, she's regressed back to school refusal and is getting more aggressive. I have been kicked and punched trying to get her up and out in the mornings - not every time, but enough that it's knocked me down a bit. It didn't help that she chipped one of my front teeth from kicking me in the face. It's fixed but isn't the same as before.
This Christmas is the 10 year anniversary of their (birth) mum's death so it's going to be a strange one, I think. Her 43rd birthday was last week and even though I always keep these things low key the aggression definitely shot up across the week.
