Not being rude but do you eat too fast? Or chew gum? Sometimes you can swallow lots of air which in turn makes you feel bloated and gassy.

Hope you sort it out soon

I used to chew gum regularly but I haven’t for ages because I thought that could be the problem, the same with fizzy drinks but neither have had an effect.

Eating too fast is a maybe. I don’t think I do but that seems like a pretty easy one to test so I’ll try forcing myself to slow down and see if that works.

Finished my prescription on Friday which is a great relief, I cannot recommend having tablets which give you diarrhoea for 3 months,. Not fun.

Had some blood tests on Monday and got the results back today. Once again they’ve all come back clear and requiring no further action.

So once again, I don’t know what more I can do.

I’m considering the option that it’s a consequence of sitting at a desk, which obviously isn’t a simple fix.
Get a stand up one.

It is extremely unlikely that my employer would allow me to do that.

Another visit to the GP today and they’ve prescribed Amitriptyline, for IBS. An added bonus is that they’re often prescribed for depression or anxiety. Hoping for good results.

Hope it helps you Rob.
Would be interested to hear if helps.

I have 'IBS'. Intermittent bloating/gas.
Have read about low dose antidepressants being used to ease IBS symptoms.

There’s a familiar name, hi Jules!

You might be right in principle but I’ve been here 12 years and it’s verging on impossible to get anything which costs the company money. I had to get authorisation from my regional manager for a new £10 wired mouse.

It did not.

I’m now on Alverine which is a smooth muscle relaxant and that seems to be having no success either.

At least now I seem to be getting some medication to try but I’m still just so tired of it all.

I’ve felt unwell for so long now I can’t remember how long it’s been.

Every day I’m struggling on, suffering without any help and having to balance working my ass off while being scared stless about the what ifs. It’s exhausting.

Sorry to hear that Rob
Alverine can take about 6 weeks to make any difference. Didn't help with my bloating.

How is the stress and anxiety? Sounds quite high if you are constantly worrying about your health.
My IBS symptoms really settled down after seeing a therapist for a few weeks. Anxiety was definitely a trigger.
Still get them from time to time but not as often.
Deflatine relieves my symptoms. Trapped gas can cause a lot of pain in odd places

Back again.

The Alverine has been no help at all, and I’m now 9.5 months in with my food diary with no obvious patter emerging.

I’ve FINALLY got the appointment with the GE on Wednesday though and although it’s only by phone, I’m hoping I can articulate my symptoms to them well enough for them to rush some more tests or at least offer some useful advice.

Sorry, missed this at the time.

My only stress is this so although it could be the cause as well as the symptom, there was no initial trigger that I can think of.

I’m pretty sure the doctor will just tell me I’m constipated but that doesn’t make any sense to me, not after 3 years!

I have but not like you would a course of medication. I’ve taken it as something reactive, like you would with Gaviscon or Rennie. I’ll mention it on Wednesday and see if they recommend using it for a longer period.

Well that was a waste of time. The specialist told me to look at a website. 10 months I’ve been waiting for that.

I'm no expert and have only quickly skimmed through your comments.
My best guess is that it's a combination of IBS, excessive anxiety and poor quality food.

The diagnosis earlier in the year was IBS-C as none of the previous tests (blood, stool, X-ray and ultrasound) have highlighted any other issues.

The X-ray said I was constipated, hence the “C”.

I am honestly not stressed about anything other than this. I used to be, I was an absolute wreck about everything but I’m now completely ambivalent across the board. No drama, no stress.

My diet isn’t perfect but I’m not having a fry up or a takeaway every day. I could improve it and I’m working to do that.

Back again. Been on a gluten free diet for 3 months and guess what? No change, other than the fact that all I could think about was bread.

Now I’ve got to try a few weeks of eating normally and then 3 months dairy free.

I’m still convinced there’s more to it. Most days I have a period of time in the evening when I’ve got horrendous trapped wind and then there’s a ‘gurgle’ inside when it moves then out it comes… my concern there is that it’s moving past some sort of obstruction.

What’s not helping is that the gastroenterologist prescribed Amitriptyline so I’ve mentally felt amazing for two months (but not physically) and now they won’t give me any more so I’m having a massive low.

As usual my family don’t want to listen, I just get the ‘have you tried…?’ And the ‘it’ll be fine’ and I’m not coping very well alone frown

Have you tried yoga?

might sound silly but some stretching exercise might help you, that or some colonic irrigation.
