Just thought I would 'throw' my experience into the mix. Its 3 years since I had my triple bypass, right in the middle of the second lock down.
I started my 'journey' in the previous feb, told I needed tests, which were then cancelled. When we were all 'freed' from the first lock down I was asked if I wanted to go for tests and,was I worried going into hospital in case I caught Covid.
When the consultant discussed the results of my angiogram and other tests, his words were' you might not get covid but you will have a major heart attack in 6 months'. No contest.
Sod covid I put my name on the waiting list.
The govmt had frightened so many people about going into hospitals that they were desperate for patients.
James Cook in Middlesbro divided their site into two, building a wall down the middle of the hospital, covid, deffo no admittance and other side still trying to operate as normal.
I was admitted in early Nov 2020. Because of complications I was in for 9 days, downside no visitors, it got very lonely.
Afterwards I was left to my own devices, no rehab or follow up.
I just sorted my own exercise routine and got on with it.
My quality of life has greatly improved since those dark days and am greatful to James Cook for keeping going during covid.

What's the latest, fellow bypassers?

It's a year since my 'episode' and nine months since my double bypass and most things are much better. However, having worked up to two miles walking a day, I can't increase it. Two miles, that's it. Yes, I could have two walks but that doesn't explain why I have topped out at two miles. Before my walk, bending down to tie my shoes leaves me breathless and in need of a pee. It's liveable withable but surely I should be able to bend down by now. Slip-on shoes might be the answer. And every so often, I have a crap day. Once a fortnight-ish. It feels a bit like flu. Solpadiene helps (the Paracetamol and Codeine cocktail).

Niggles really. On the whole, brilliant. Thank gawd for the NHS.

I've just turned 70, so the surgeon's, 'We'll get you ten more years' seems fair. Ask me again in 2034.
