Well I must admit I haven't exactly been very good lately, my dad was suffering with terminal cancer and through the last stressful days I've been drinking again and eating a few more takeaways, and unfortunately he passed away last weekend. Despite that, I still measured a slight drop of 0.55kg from a fortnight ago which I must admit has cheered me up a bit.

Now 7kg down from the start, and a renewed focus after this weekend, I would like to see another stone off before I go away at the back end of May, although how achievable that will be with all of the social events coming up is anyone's guess.

+0.2kg for me. I'm still on pain relief after an op last weekend which has messed up my insides somewhat. Have been good with food Mon-Fri and I've shuffled to the 'last' hole on my belt (which was a new belt last year). Feel like a zombie with the meds, but pleased I've kept myself there or thereabouts and not gone into meltdown. Reasonable number of steps daily, but unable to exercise beyond. Having to take my top off at the hospital for dressing changes isn't too embarrassing!

TameRacingDriver - very sorry to hear the news about your Dad. Hard to lose a parent frown

Another good week - whilst I’m having the odd beer I’m sticking to 2 or 3 over the whole week so very little really. Diet is still very healthy and the gym work is still going well. Despite dropping weight I’m still upping my lifts in the gym. This is usually a good marker that I’m dropping mainly fat and not loads of muscle.

I’m going to have a back off week in the gym next week and eat a little more (healthy foods) to allow my body a break and to recharge a little. I expect a bit of a weight increase but that is fine.

Progress so far

Start weight 90.5kg
Current weight 81kg

Target c76kg - ideally by end of May

The (gradual) downward trend continues - just 0.7kgs this week. My weekends do tend to be brakes off and this weekend will be no exception with a couple of nights away! So whilst the rate of loss is not staggering it's reassuring to know that I can 'indulge' a little for 2/3 days and be rigorous for 4 days and the weight still heads in the right direction. Total of 7kgs since early January so if I maintain this rate of 0.7kgs per week I should be on target weight around the first week of May smile

PS: my sincere condolences to TameRacingDriver. I was familiar with your posts on the 'Effing cancer' thread so whilst you knew the end was near that doesn't soften the blow when it finally happens.

That’s great progress!

0.7kg is a decent amount. Look at how much a 1lb of fat looks like. You are dropping more than that in a week.

Thanks to everyone for the kind words about my dad smile

Well done to everyone so far with their journey. I'm looking forward to getting stuck back in properly next week and going forwards. I'm definitely very pleased with my 7kg loss so far.

Another Sunday and another loss. Down 0.5kg to 79.0 from 79.5kg, slow but steady wins the race.

Down .6 to 81.3 (from 85.1) slowly slowly but the 70s are in sight!

No weigh day for me this week as I've just finished moving house and 4 takeaways in 9 days would skew the results a little!

Back on it today so I'm hoping to lose what I would have gained last week

Is it not better to weigh in daily and track the trend. Weekly weigh ins can be effected by fluctuations.
Ether can work, even daily weigh ins can show a difference of 3 or 4lb, do it at the same time each day of course, just don't become obsessive about the numbers.
I weigh myself two or three times most days, and the fluctuations can be "interesting" to say the least. This weekend as an example...
9th March = 76.1kg first thing. Toilet and a hot bath and I'm down to 74.9kg half an hour later.
10th March = 75.4kg at 0810hrs, but right up to 77.2kg at 2225hrs.
11th March = 75.5kg at 1130hrs.

There's no way I ate 1.8kg of pasta bolognese and apple pie yesterday, and I doubt I took a 1.7kg dump this morning. But the higher weight wasn't a one-off, but confirmed by three attempts with the scale moved between attempts.

The previous weekend I wrote off. I was away for the weekend at a hotel and enjoyed the occasional drink which I hardly ever bother with at home. 76.3kg before going, 75.7kg a week later (I avoided the scale for a few days after getting home). I'd expected an increase, not a small loss.

Currently I'm happy enough at "around 75kg", although I got as low as 74.6kg one day last week. The general trend is still down, though, and I'd rather get there without feeling like I'm putting myself "on a diet" by giving up food I enjoy. I've cut down on treats between meals and I'm trying to cook more from scratch instead of ready-meals, but there's not a lot else to "give up". I have my tea and coffee black with one tiny spoon of sugar, and I rarely drink alcohol at home.

Interested why people on this thread are talking about losing 0.2kg or gaining 0.3?

Surely you can’t measure body weight with that kind of accuracy as it varies over the day.

To say I lost 0.5kg this week, might just depend on when I last ate or had a cup of tea.

I just put away a litre of water - if I weighed myself now I wouldn’t be concerned re a weight gain.

Don’t you have to look at a trend over time?I can’t see how anyone could know if they’d lost a couple of hundred grammes in a week. Unless I’m missing something really obvious and am about to look stupid!

I guess that's why the Wiki has "from start" and "weekly" loss columns

I weigh when I wake up, so the same time of day, usually once a week, or more often if I'm being really good (and I'm not there at the moment).

I also try and go to slimming world groups - usually after 2 cups of tea and a flask of coffee. Again at the same time every week, and the weight is a reasonable reflection of what's going on.

It’s not hard to weigh yourself after waking and if you want to be thorough , a SSS.

I find the variability very low.

I weigh myself daily when I wake up and after i've been the toilet. So my readings are fairly comparable within reason.

Having a bit of an experiment over the next month or so. I think my daily schedule is holding me back on the weight loss front. I usually have some sandwiches and fruit for lunch and then a full meal for tea with no breakfast. Due to work and having to walk my dog after work the earliest I get to eat is 6:30. However I usually end up eating around 8:30/9pm as I go to an exercise class or running club 4 evenings a week. Obviously can’t eat before otherwise I’d bring it back up so have to eat afterwards. I feel this is too late and it prevents me losing weight (I’m great at maintaining a weight…).

My plan is for 2/3 days I’ll switch the meals around and have my tea for lunch and vice versa. I’ve done it a couple of days this week and have lost 1kg so seems to help in the short term. Will report back on how it goes.

How do others have a proper evening meal as well as fitting in some exercise?

I started going to Slimming World in November 2022. Today, I got my 5 stone loss certificate. Only 3 stones left to go! It has been hard work, but very worthwhile. I’m fitter, much healthier and a good deal smaller. Also, a little poorer, as it’s costing me a small fortune on new clothes!
Keep up the hard work guys!

Yes, I’ve always struggled with this, so we tend to eat late which is less than ideal. The big lunch small dinner worked well when I could. and I’d try really hard to do morning or lunch exercise sessions - but found mornings incredibly difficult to do anything with intensity (threshold / VO2 max zones). I also tried taking dinner in to work and having it around 3.30, and taking lunch early. But it entirely depends on your workplace / job.

Really interested I how others fit a athletic life in with their work/hole life.
