Thought I might join in with you guys, dont laugh but I joined slimming world with my OH back in April.
I decided that with my ever expanding waistline and being over 40 it was time to do something before my weight started with a 2 frown. My weight loss has been a bit up and down, holidays and a variety of family partys have made it tough to stick to my diet. My aim at the moment is to drop my weight by dieting until I can get to a point where I can exercise without it killing my back (I had a back injury 20yrs ago and I have ongoing problems with it)

Here come the 'New Years Resolution' crowd...

Started in April when I hit 15 stone for the first time. Somewhat unflattering photo taken at the end of March 2014.

This mugshot was taken at the end of July 2014. No progress since then I'm afraid, but attacking 2015 with a clean slate at 87.5kg and renewed vigour!

Welcome to the thread!

I was thinking about this the other day when I stood on the scales and was disgusted to see that I had put on weight. I started slacking off back in September and as a result I am now about 5kg heavier than before. I had managed to lose 12kg in total last year before I put some of it back on. Even after dropping 12kg I wasn't where I wanted to be. Need to drop down to about 70kg and build up some muscle mass too. Issue for me is my weight is all on the front. Goal is to be able to wear medium shirts and jumpers without a sodding paunch in the way.

Started heading back to the gym with some effort towards the middle of December, lets see how long it takes me to shift the extra timber.

Welcome smile

I haven't been in here for a long time! My gym usage petered off through the summer last year, down to virtually nothing by the last quarter of the year.

I also have been drinking far too much. Too many long binging sessions down the local, I was sticking away 12 pints a night without any qualms.

So, dry January is here, gym usage has resumed, work cupboard stocked up with ryvitas, prawns and fruit, and we're underway again.

I'm currently hovering around the 18st mark, so have put on around 4kgs. Will weigh in Saturday morning and update the table.

Thanks! Thanks also for reminding me to donate to an old friend of mine in the UK on his Dry January bid. He drinks fairly heavily and is currently struggling along with a fractured wrist so I'm sure it's not too easy.

Guess it's time I updated.

Last year put weight back on. Went from the 78.8kg I updated the chart to, and back up to 85kg. Decided to get on top of it in July and got back into a good routine.
Was enjoying running and gym work. (despite it being tough here in Dubai, lots of treadmill stuff as its too hot outside even in the evenings) I entered a half marathon and a 10km- my first races and got good times (for me at least!)
Anyway, I lowered my target to 75kg. Got there in about October/November.

Went on a 3 week holiday in jan, and enjoyed a lot of booze and good food, so back into the routine now and hopefully will work on toning up again. Could do with trying to build some muscle mass on arms, seems to be a struggle despite regular work.
Anyway, at 73kg now, and down from 35inch waist to 30. Very happy with that and feeling fitter than ever. Just got to keep it up now!

Hard work and consistency.

It's taken two years to find the right balance with getting the right quantity of food to keep me satisfied throughout the day without getting hunger pangs.

Once the balance is right, it makes it easier. Just got to stay focused and motivated.

I went off the boil a bit for over a month, I ate out a little more and haven't been going to the gym.

My excuse is that I'm working 60 hour weeks and living in an apartment on my own along with a load of ex-pat colleagues, more often than not going out for dinner and more often than not having a beer with it.

On the plus side I have been playing more Tennis and Badminton.

Disappointed with my recent lapse in discipline I weighed myself for the first time in three or more weeks and found that I hadn't put on weight. This is of great significance to me as it must mean that my losses made so far are sustainable and I am no longer living a lifestyle whereby I put on weight unless I'm dieting. This is very helpful for my motivation.

I don't want to go to the gym, I'm playing tennis a couple of times a week and badminton once- so for now I'm just trying to keep that up and just be a little more hungry.

The other thing I've done is forgotten the notion of 'three square meals' per day and the idea of what I consider a 'conventional' dinner. I'm much more flexible now on what I eat depending on what I've already had that day and how I feel. If I have a particularly big or late lunch I'll skip dinner or replace it with fruit, yoghurt and musli.

Breakfast at the moment consists of a Nature Valley bar and a banana or apple, I can't figure out how detrimental the snack bar is compared to a bowl of porridge but it doesn't seem to be doing too much harm and, being a bar, it's quantity controlled.

When I was at my biggest I was struggling to fit in 40" trousers for work. It was at that point, I decided I needed to do something.

I took a week looking at what I would normally eat, and it mostly consisted of crap, and sitting about doing sweet FA, which is why the weigh piled on.

In a year, I went from a 17" shirt collar, to an 18.5", and started to feel very self concious as a consequence. I stopped going out so much, and it affected my relationship with my OH.

When the weight began to drop off I initially felt great about it, but after a month or so (-5kgs) it just stopped.

I was going out for a walk most nights, and was eating a lot better. Banned were takeaways to once a fortnight, and my portion sizes plummeted. They were replaced with grilled chicken breast with herbs and spices, with Boiled potatos and Veg with every meal.

I stepped it up, and lost another 3 kilos, but it stopped again, so lost willpower and gave up.

I stopped, but carried on eating semi-healthy. Takeaways were upped to once a week, but I was a little more active at work so my weight didn't go up.

Christmas came and went, and like most people, eat like a trooper and put on 2kgs.
January came and I tried the "Juice Plus" diet, and had pretty good results! Lost 6 kilos in 2 months, whilst not strictly sticking to it (2 shakes a day, was having 1) and I was really happy with it. My Girlfriend and I managed to lose some weight, she lost in excess of 20kgs but was at it for longer because:

After 2 months I caught a sickness bug, and lost my shaker bottle I used for JP.
This was about a month ago, and my weight has levelled, i've not put any on, or lost any.

My target, to be honest isn't about weight, it's size, I want to fit back into 17" shirts and 34/36" trousers. When I'm there, i'll be happy. This has taught me to look after myself though as when I was at my biggest, I had no energy at all without coffee, but now, drinking just water I have more energy to get up and about. I used to properly abuse my body, but now I try to take care of it. Yes I have the odd cheat day, but they're getting rarer and rarer now, as I'm now cooking with proper spices and home making a load of stuff.

I still want to lose more, but at the moment, I have no willpower and trying to enjoy life a little.
I will start back up soon.

well, last year didnt really happen. An initial weight loss spurt went all back on PDQ and I rounded out the year and started this one 2.5kg lighter than I started 2014 at 89.9kg.

So come the end of January I ditched the energy drinks, ditched full sugar fizzy juice and started paying attention to what I was eating. Still havent really been going to the gym, something like half a dozen trips this year total, but by midway through last month I dipped under the 80kg mark for the first time in 4 years.

Challenge now is going to be modifying my diet to increase my calories and keep the weight off [I'm still too heavy on carbs]

Slightly ironic that the first year in 4 that I'm not planning on racing, is the first year in 4 that my preseason weight loss has actually happened hehe

That's a big drop in less than 4 months you must be delighted.

4, 16 or 17 months, yes, it feels much better. My back problems have lessened a lot too carrying around less weight.

I thought I'd add myself to this. smile

I started at the beginning of March when I reached 1/8th of a metric ton. frown

So far, I've only had one week where my weight has gone back up, even when there's been beer carnage involved! hehe

My simple, old fashioned approach is to allow myself 2,000 calories a day, then modernising it slightly by recording absolutely everything in My Fitness Pal, and also linking in Strava and Endomondo to record any exercise and add that back in. Having done a three mile run this morning, I'm off to breakfast in my hotel knowing that I've got 2,724 of my 2,000 calories for the day remaining! hehe
