Discussion
Interesting thread and makes for good reading.
I'm in the midst of sorting my weight out. I'm 48 and 6 foot and have seen my weight spiral to over 16 stone, due to lazy eating (sandwiches and crisps), moving home and finding a great pub and little exercise. I always used to sit at 13.5 stone no matter how much or little exercise I did, the only thing that shifted was where I carried the weight based on whether I was exercising or not.
I've now been controlling my food, beer and exercising a fair bit as well. I've shed nearly two stone over the past three months and feel much better, although I'd really like to see the 13.5 stone figure again.
Here's what I've been doing:
FOOD
I've stopped eating anything that isn't fresh, so zero processed food.
Focussed on fresh fish as much as possible
No bread, or potato based products
Lots of fresh veg, especially spinach and broccoli
Using shredded cauliflower instead of rice
Managed 4 successful 3 day stints on a the grape diet
EXERCISE
I've got a tredmaill at home, so used this a lot.
Initially did 2 x 16 minute stints at 4-8 kmh daily
Now up to 4x 16 stints daily at 6-10 kmh
Also doing 15 mins weights ahead of running
BOOZE
I've never been a drinker at home, so just trying to limit the weekends on the booze and cut out midweek trips to the pub completely

The measure on Strava - if the activity is relatively intense - says 100 kclas per 10 minutes - so 600 each way.
To be honest, from experience of doing this before and the speed the weight fell off at when I cycled regularly - doing 16-18 mph - I can believe that quite happily
On the MTB, was int he pissing rain and howling gale, pace I am not sure of but wasnt super fast, normally am 15 to 20 on the road bike, but slower on the MTB, big nightvision coat, I put some effort in, its an hour give or take, half an hour each way, I reckon 500/600 cals realistically to move 231 pounds of me, 28 pound bike, clothing, accesories and rucksack 14 miles, must be getting on for 300 pounds total near enough. The measure on Strava - if the activity is relatively intense - says 100 kclas per 10 minutes - so 600 each way.

So, I am significantly more economical than my car that uses most of a gallon of fuel for that trip, a gallon of petrol contains 31,000 calories !

Cycling to work does help, 14 miles, takes me an hour or so, wonder how many calories that burns, the online estimators are anywhere between 400 and 1000, must be 500 or so for a 16 plus stone bloke, plus bike, and rucksack.
Always thought that in the gym... If the bike says you've burned 250 cals - is that 250 cals for Wiggins, or 250 cals for a fat bloke with his thighs recording a slap on the Richter scale with every revolution?J4CKO said:

MPG not bad but terrible emissions.

16.5, 19 pounds down, 19 to go to my 15 stone target, so am half way.
How is everyone else going on ?
I'm stuck at 12:10, and have been for months. How is everyone else going on ?
The required effort to shift the last 11lbs of fat is soooooooooooo hard.
And I like biscuits too much.
I eat nothing like that that now, I cant, there was a load of biscuits and cakes next to me all day yesterday and didnt falter.
Am having around 1800 calories a day I reckon, not hungry.
Will have a few drinks on Friday night though, get to 16 for Christmas, perhaps back off a smidge an then batter it in the new year, no booze, get to 15, then see how I feel, but then monitor my weight properly so it doesnt creep back on.

Good for you! It gets easier once your stomach shrinks (as I assume yours has). I was 'starving' earlier, before tea, but after I cooked my salmon, salad and rice, I could barely eat half of it!I eat nothing like that that now, I cant, there was a load of biscuits and cakes next to me all day yesterday and didnt falter.

I had Sea Bass, Broccoli and Steamed Rice for tea, a Chicken Salad roll for lunch and porridge for breakfast, going to go in my man shed for a bit and do some weights, on the bike in the morning, my thinking is this is normality and occasionally I can have a treat, but not every day.
Am still fairly overweight, but am the lightest I have been for about three years, weird thing is that the BMI chart says the most I should be is 13 st 3, not sure I could lose another 3 stone.

Exactly the same. Hovering between 14-15% bodyfat even with running 20 miles a week and intense weights sessions. The required effort to shift the last 11lbs of fat is soooooooooooo hard.

Diet is hindering me from getting more cut. Alcohol is minimal so it's pure diet limiting me. I really struggle to eat quality dinners
