Cheers - I did it before, 2012-ish, and gradually put the weight back on, but that time I did it with just diet and cardio. This time I added in resistance training in the hope that increasing my lean mass will help avoid that outcome. My life has changed so much this year, and I have only myself to worry about, that it's been relatively easy to change my lifestyle.
I think it is never easy to change your lifestyle, it takes will power and dedication that very few have to see it though. With that in mind, I think you are a true inspiration - plus you look fantastic to boot! Very well done.

A great many people may have chosen the easier opposite direction than you, after what you have been through.

Yeah, I will need to keep on top of it, have got into the habit of weighing myself most days, got to keep that up and set some bounds so it doesn't spiral out of control again.

I will be able to eat a bit more once I get down to my target weight but will need to still be careful and not get back into bad habits.

You mention it being easier because you just have to look after yourself, I think that does make a difference, I dont want to sound insensitive here given your circumstances but in the past with my wife I have found that if I am on a diet and she isnt then I find that lapsing is easier and more likely. However this time we have both been on it so it goes the other way. we have both lost two stone, her a little bit more which is impressive given she is a lot lighter, i.e. as a percentage.

She has between half a stone and a stone to lose she says, I have another 21 pounds and then will see if I am happy at that weight, if not, drop a few more pounds until I am.

How much were the Dexa Scans by the way ?

Cheers Chris. thumbup

Yeah, a lot of people would have gone the other way, but I'm not a comfort eater. I get fat when I'm content, I lose my appetite when I'm unhappy. I found the exercise very helpful to my state of mind, it got me out of the house, and having something positive to focus on was good too.

We both did it together back in 2012, and lost a lot of weight, her more than me. If you are both determined, you can keep each other on the right track, but the flip side is that once that determination fades you get to the point where either one of you being weak means both fail. I have been able to be utterly selfish with my time and money - four sessions a week with a PT is a lot of both.

£200 for a package of three. Going to give it a while before I use the last one.

Hopefully we wont let ourselves get like that again, being less fat is quite compelling, a lot of it was bad eating and drinking habits from having young kids and not much time to do stuff, all a bit of a blur, lot more time now to focus on ourselves.

15.10 this morning, lightest I have been in ten years, so slowly and steadily coming off.

Slow and steady is a good idea if you don't want to end up tucking your loose belly skin into your pants.

That's excellent. I'm steady at 14.1 at well chuffed. Would love to get another stone off, but I've got four months before the motorbike race season starts to achieve that.

Been at it for three months, averaged just over 2 pounds a week though it started off quicker but has slowed down as expected, 1 to 2 pounds a week does me, it isnt a diet, it is a permanent change though I will be able to eat a little more when at my goal weight.

Need something to eat now, been on the phone all morning, one of our colleagues in Chennai added another drive to a production SQL Server as requested but replaced the Logfile drive, rather than adding a new one, queue 20 broken databases, meant to be a cost saver this !

On a roll this week, loads of cycling, walking and not much food in anticipation of next week.

My aim was 16 by Christmas, well I made that and then some.

Going to have some crap and booze next week but not go too overboard and make more work for the new year when I begin the push to get to my ultimate target, I have 14 st in my head or thereabouts but will see how I feel at that, might need to go lower.

Bodyfat at 23 and a bit percent currently, based on what my scales say, not sure how accurate they are but they are the best I have, want to get to 15 percent.

Afternoon all... Been out of this thread for a month while I've gorged myself on brisket, ribs and pale ale in 10 different US states. God I feel fat laugh

Tried to be sensible, used the hotel gyms a few times while away, and been doing lots of walking. 22k step days were not uncommon when sightseeing. Being a road trip though, there were days where I just spent 6 hours in the truck, ate st roadside food, then got pissed in the evening. It was always going to happen.

I'm late to the party, but I've signed up to the challenge thread, I'm at 19st 7lb as of Saturday morning.

Gym tonight eek

Fat bloke with no will power here.

How do I motivate myself?
Stop eating cake fat ass tongue out

If others are doing it around you then you're more likely to succeed as you wont want to lose face.

Plan your meals carefully, and when you go to snack on something - have something to drink instead (and by that I do mean water or sugar free squash, not beer)

Says me, with an easter egg fetish frown
I don't eat cake or drink beer.

It's sitting on my ar$e all day that's the problem. There's 3 bikes gathering dust in the garage.....
Book yourself a sportive. British cycling has them, or ride to Paris or something.

I guess from my garage you'd be forgiven for thinking I was 40+ biggrin

Another bit of car-related motivation... I've just bought a little Mini, and want to take it on the Italian Job next year... 3000 miles round Europe in 2.5 weeks... I'm going to need to be fit, and lighter. Wonder what I can get to by October next year?
Time to resurrect this thread... And the post above.

Weighed in this morning at 19st 2lb, which in good news is the same as I was last November - but in bad news I think it's less muscle, more flab.

So, two months today I set off for Italy in a classic Mini, all 6ft5 and 121.5kg (but hopefully less) of me. I've left it late, but I'm on a mission to trim down before the off, and get a bit 'fitter'... We've raised a fair wad for charity, so I want to do them proud!

Was back in the gym last night... Night off tonight, and back there tomorrow & Thursday. Carfest this weekend, will have to try not to drink the bar dry of Aspalls.

I'll let you know how I get on....
