I'm in.

Did the test the other day and managed 20 before my form got dodgy, so today I started in the '11-20' column. Found it quite challenging and had to do the last half of the final set rest-pause.

Will switch to the middle column methinks. (I'm also carrying about 30lb of blubber that won't help things, I'm slowly shifting it though).

Been training a long time. Did not read the whole thread but I am really surprised by all the posters that can't manage the 100..

Genuine question - can you do a single-armed push-up? Would be interesting to know if there is much carry-over. I can do 2 or 3 but somehow can't do over 20 regular!

I can do 200, however these are usually divided into 5 sets of 40 each. By the end of the 40 i am usually into lactic so not holding much hope for 100 straight off.

BTW, my press ups are the short, bouncy type - i hope this counts?

To tell the truth,,, I have never tried to master the art / balance of a one arm push, so I never tried to see how many reps I can muster. Reason, I am not curious and can't see the point due to the small reps achievable, this being, from a fitness point of view.

I have managed 100 press ups for such a long time, even with my long arms. I never have thought its good going either. As I say, always done the press ups, along with mid core scrunches, even when in the house in the evening, after my normal day workouts.

Stats,,, I am just over 5'10" and weight in and around 12 stone.

Posted before to say I can do 100, but in response to above:

I can do a few one arm push ups.

Not sure how many I've managed in one set... maybe 10 at my best?

Can hit 100 fairly easily and regularly do 5 sets of 50 with little rest.

Also did 22 clap push ups as part of that challenge the other week, with video evidence! Definitely the most I've managed in one set.

Are people on here doing big reps doing proper form push-ups with elbow close to the body not sticking out like Chris Froome?

Managed 112 push ups non-stop this morning!

My Fitbit showed me as flat lining throughout, though... hehe

Doubtful, though I am in a challenge to do 60 press-ups and a 3 min plank every day for a year. Every day missed is 20p to charity. Press-ups can be split, but plank must be one hit. It's mainly ow.

That sound more do-able to me. I'm 5 weeks into a gym programme and the trainer is encouraging me to do more of this sort of thing rather than running on my days off.

I'll try later but at a guess I'd say I could do 40 odd press ups and 90s - 2mins of plank.

Good thread

Yeah - the plank is initially challenging, but once you've done it a few times you know you can, which helps! Press-ups I'll get to doing 60 in one hit, then start adding a few a week. 100 here I come.

Worst case that £73 to charity... I mean really fella, think on it ;o)

I can do 100 press ups, I'm up to about 110 max, I'd been doing 60 pressups (and 60 squats) each morning for about 4 years then a few months ago decided if I could get to a hundred press ups and 200 squats. It's not everyday I can do it and I'm better in the evenings than the mornings but I've got to 110 twice now, takes me about 3 minutes. I do them hands shoulder width, with narrower hands (engaging more bicep) I struggle to do 30 still.

3 min plank is very achievable, my 9 year old daughter did a plank for the entirety of a Topsy and Tim episode (about 12 minutes) the other day to win herself an extra bed time cookie!

I don't know how to feel reading your abilities with press ups. I'm fairly fit, doing weight training, running, competing in obstacle course races etc. But yet I cannot even do 20 press ups!

I'm bit of a pressups machine so can easily do 100 in a single outing. I was 'nominated to do the '22 Pressup' challenge on social media and while I ignored the numerous requests, I finally gave in and did it. It was kind of fun watching others do it. A few guys I know get out of breath walking to their cars so watched them manage two or three in quick succession, take a rest and carry on. Credit to them, by around half way through the days, they'ed come on leaps and bounds.

So I know it's about the number of ex-servicemen etc etc and not that 22 preshups will really strech most, but I really wasn't going to be 'challenged' so made it harder. I watched others struggle and thought if it's hard for them, then I should make it harder for me.

Day one I did the 22 pressups with Mrs Autopilot laying on my back. She's only little so not too difficult. On day two, my next door neighbour came round so I thought while he was there I may as well see if I can do a heavier set of 22reps. He's 6'4 and around 16.5st. Before embarrasing myself on camera I did a set of two with him on my back to test it. It felt fine, so thought if I can manage 2 easily, I'll get 10 out. If I can do 10, I can push to 20 and then just need to grimace through the last two. I managed it fine but REALLY knew I'd done it the next day! I then did them one armed, in suspension between weights benches. I didn't do them for a number of days so did the 5 days worth in one set. It was difficult but I could have carried on for a bit longer.

I'm 40 and have been doing martial arts since I was 4 and if anybody has done martial arts, you'll know that back in the day, pressups were the staple part of a warm up....or punishment for being late etc, so I've been conditioned to just be able to do them. I've 'almost' stepped on stage to compete in bodybuilding so do have a strict regime, but most importantly, I have short arms, arms a T-Rex would be proud of and that really helps!!

I'm fairly fit and while my friends try and convince me to go On Ninja Warrior as I'm always climbing up stuff and leaping around, I'd be fairly comfortable that you'd wipe the floor with me on an obstacle race and I wouldn't keep up with you on a run.

My weight training however is pretty gruelling. I'm 5'7, about 15% body fat at the moment, maybe a bit under and I weigh around 12 stone 3. I'll press a set of 65kg dumbells for a 10 reps and squat over 350kg on a hack squat machine which without knowing you, I'll assume is different to what you do?

Some people are just strong and can shift their own body weight or heavier weights. I'm OK at running, but I do find it REALLY hard!!. People just have different strengths and weaknesses so to speak.

As you do loads of other activities, I bet if you did something like the 22 Day Pressup challenge that was being pushed on Social Media, I bet you'd do it within the first week.

As the guy above said its really just practice and conditioning, you get good at what you do, i can't bench my own body weight (75kg) but can do over 50 reps at 2/3 my body weight, I'm not strong but i can endure. My chin ups are also only slightly better than average but something to attack next. I also have 20 odd years of martial arts practice where pressups were an integrated part of the regime.

I'm 44, carried a few too many pounds around for many years, probably last did a press up (or any exercise beyond dog walking) 25 years ago. Just managed 13, although a 'slight pain' I had in my back is now pretty rotten!

Baby steps.
