I couldnt ever do pushups until I saw this video and realised I was sticking my arms out to the side and therefore doing it 'wrong' according to this techinque. Now I find them quite easy.

Can still only do 25 max mind.

I don't know how to feel reading your abilities with press ups. I'm fairly fit, doing weight training, running, competing in obstacle course races etc. But yet I cannot even do 20 press ups!
As the guy above said its really just practice and conditioning, you get good at what you do, i can't bench my own body weight (75kg) but can do over 50 reps at 2/3 my body weight, I'm not strong but i can endure. My chin ups are also only slightly better than average but something to attack next. I also have 20 odd years of martial arts practice where pressups were an integrated part of the regime.
I think I ought to take off the 40 kilo plates and try and see how many I can do with just my body weight!

I have been doing 100 press ups straight off for years. Now at 50 yrs I can still do 100 plus...
Been training a long time. Did not read the whole thread but I am really surprised by all the posters that can't manage the 100..
Yeah, can you imagine the average man off the street not being able to do 100 push ups without any training.
It's unbelievable, isn't it?

I used to be able to do 100, I wouldn't say easy, but I could.

I think I'm up to 25-30 now, after ripping my chest back in Jan.

I'm bit of a pressups machine so can easily do 100 in a single outing. I was 'nominated to do the '22 Pressup' challenge on social media and while I ignored the numerous requests, I finally gave in and did it. It was kind of fun watching others do it. A few guys I know get out of breath walking to their cars so watched them manage two or three in quick succession, take a rest and carry on. Credit to them, by around half way through the days, they'ed come on leaps and bounds.

So I know it's about the number of ex-servicemen etc etc and not that 22 preshups will really strech most, but I really wasn't going to be 'challenged' so made it harder. I watched others struggle and thought if it's hard for them, then I should make it harder for me.

Day one I did the 22 pressups with Mrs Autopilot laying on my back. She's only little so not too difficult. On day two, my next door neighbour came round so I thought while he was there I may as well see if I can do a heavier set of 22reps. He's 6'4 and around 16.5st. Before embarrasing myself on camera I did a set of two with him on my back to test it. It felt fine, so thought if I can manage 2 easily, I'll get 10 out. If I can do 10, I can push to 20 and then just need to grimace through the last two. I managed it fine but REALLY knew I'd done it the next day! I then did them one armed, in suspension between weights benches. I didn't do them for a number of days so did the 5 days worth in one set. It was difficult but I could have carried on for a bit longer.

I'm 40 and have been doing martial arts since I was 4 and if anybody has done martial arts, you'll know that back in the day, pressups were the staple part of a warm up....or punishment for being late etc, so I've been conditioned to just be able to do them. I've 'almost' stepped on stage to compete in bodybuilding so do have a strict regime, but most importantly, I have short arms, arms a T-Rex would be proud of and that really helps!!
One of my mates did them different every time. She ended up doing free stand commando press-ups. She's a machine like the Terminator T-X

I ran out of ideas so ended up doing them in random places. I had quite a few comments after doing one set in the middle of the Co-op smile

I know. Look at this fatty, I bet he couldn't lift a 10kg plate with both hands.

Who's with me ? Starting Monday ?

I know it's not 'proper' exercise but it might inspire some of us to go on to chase better fitness. Besides it'll be a larf.

I've got a bit lazy of late, my mountain biking has turned into taking the train to the top of a hill and bombing down without hardly turning the pedals.

C'mon who's in ?
Thread Revival time!! OP was 2008

I've had this training in my mind for a while now, but its time to start it up again. Last time I attempted it I got to about 40/50, but after doing 15 last night before collapsing, I need to pull my finger out!

Anyone else in?

Yep - I'm in. I tried to start a 60/3 challenge with some mates, 60 push-ups and either 60 sit ups of a 3 minute plank every day. The trick being you can do them whenever and however, so 6x10, 2x30. Naturally you progress with the ideal being doing each set without a break, but the whole ting died a death. I'm game to have a crack at the ton.

I'll give it a go, looks interesting.

Fairly confident I could do around 30 on the initial test, but would love to be able to get to 100

13 two years ago (on the thread) was the last exercise I did. I'll be delighted if I start from 8 or 10!

I'll do the test this week, but I'm pretty sure if I do them "properly" then I'll be really rubbish. I can do quite a lot of wide arm press-ups, but my actual triceps are really weak...
