On my right foot, the big toe nail was completely removed as it was ingrown so badly, and on the left, the offending ingrowing bits were just lopped off so now I have a perfectly rectangular toe nail :-/

I'm not bothered by them one bit, in fact many people fail to notice the missing one as where it's healed, the colour is the same and it looks normal unless you're really interested in looking.

I caught a nasty nail infection in the showers at Duchess of Kent Barracks, Aldershot, ALL my nails fell off except on my little toes paperbag
We had a great beautician who told me to use tea tree twice a day, they all grew back and I use it all the time now, I'm totally paranoid!

Persevere and be very strict to remember to put it on and really massage it in and try to get it under the nail thats loose too.

Nice topic for first thing in the morning, don't really fancy Cornflakes now!

I think I speak for the rest of the world when I say YOU'RE ALL MINGING!!! hurl

I actually gagged at the Leatherman cutting post...(shudder)

Interestingly though I have a doctors appointment today because while I was sunbathing at the weekend something appears to of crawled into my sole of foot and has proceeded to move up and around my ankle leaving an itchy red line as it goes!

found lavender and tea tree oil into the wounds works wonders for nails, as it worked on a gangrenous leg wound that was way to close to my hip to be good for me, healed up as the 3 antibiotics needed a little "help"

not being nhs approved did not matter, it works smile

I had an ingrowing big toe for 6-9 months before the docs finally agreed to get it looked at rolleyes.

It stunk like it had died and when I went in for the op got given the choice between a local of general and being a hardman muppet I took the local, I have never felt pain like the pain of the needle going into my toe administering the local.

The only problem was they didn't put enough in, so as the surgeon stuck the scalpel into the root to cut it out I felt every bit of it! yikes

3 months on and it still isn't attched to the nailbed properly on one side, grows at a funny angle and has just started weeping again on the otherside. Oh and I caught it last night which hurt like hell.

Best make another appointment with the worst doctors surgery in history frown

Ask them to spray your toe with that nitrogen stuff first, then put the needle into your toe. I've had both big toes done after having them both ingrow at separate times. On all 3 occasions (rh toe - right side ingrew, lh toe - both sides ingrew within a month of each other), they sprayed cold stuff onto my foot until I couldn't feel a thing. Then they put the anasthetic in and I was even able to watch and I was amazed at how much toe nail was cutting through the end of my toe.

Both feet now look normal, but I've still got a manky thumbnail from crushing it in a volvo door many years ago.

I a Nail Techinician and for all of you out there that have a nail missing it is possible to re-create that nail artifically so it dosnt look odd.

Also those with split or severly ridged nails can also have an overlay treatment to prevent further damage from occuring.

Crushed the end of my left pinky when I was abbout 20. The nail ended up growing back a little strangely and is now always rippled and a bit, well, odd...

As I play football my two big toe's nails are always filled with bruised blood. Not pretty when I go to the gym when I shower or sauna, especially when there are several hot chicks in attendance most of the time. Damn you big toes! frown

Edit: I have nice feet though!

Toes are fine now but they used to look like this every other day when I was 14-16.
