As a kid my toenail grew sideways, instead of forwards, similar to an ingrowing nail so it was removed.
And it grew back the same - from the middle of my toe to the sides, so it was removed again, and did the same thing.

I then had the nail bed removed to stop it growing altogether,m so I have a small pink wrinkled bit where my toenail should be, however there are two small sprouts of nail that come up at the edges - they are a proper PITA to cut, and wiresnips are the only way to get them.

I have to cut them, else the rip holes in the duvet and all of my socks. My OH calls it my alien toe.

I worked with a guy who tried to loosen an axle stand by poking his finger through one of the holes. There was a 17t Iveco resting on top of it so you can guess what happened next!

My feet are ok, it's my hands I have the problem with. One nail has about a third bonding with the skin underneath after I dropped a gearbox on it weeping and one thumb nail ripped back from the skin after I dived keenly into an engine bay only to catch it on the engine weepingweeping That one has 50% bonding with the skin underneath frown

Ah well, in training for the Navy field gun competition many many years ago, someone dropped the peg which goes through the axle hub doobry wossname. (simplest technical way of explaining it)

One of the more beef than brains mob stuck his finger in the hole to keep the wheel on. DOH!

Ooooch!

So what your saying is: there are probably a few more people out there with problematic nails... sadly they can't write about in this thread as they are missing the relevant digits to do so! yikes

I had an ingrowing big toe for 6-9 months before the docs finally agreed to get it looked at rolleyes.

It stunk like it had died and when I went in for the op got given the choice between a local of general and being a hardman muppet I took the local, I have never felt pain like the pain of the needle going into my toe administering the local.

The only problem was they didn't put enough in, so as the surgeon stuck the scalpel into the root to cut it out I felt every bit of it! yikes

3 months on and it still isn't attched to the nailbed properly on one side, grows at a funny angle and has just started weeping again on the otherside. Oh and I caught it last night which hurt like hell.

Best make another appointment with the worst doctors surgery in history frown
That sounds exactly like what i had done on BUPA,

I didnt even get a choice, just got jammed with a needle! On the right toe though it just didnt seem to have much effet and needed another shot, it swelled up like you wouldnt believe,

and i watched the whole thing biggrin

maybe i shouldve been a surgeon....hahah biggrin

You do have quite a nice foot Mark, but I suspect you also have Hookworms!!

"The hookworm larvae will burrow into the skin of a human’s foot or leg causing a linear, red lesion, which is intensely itchy. This parasite has also been known to cause chronic intestinal bleeding, abdominal pain and diarrhea in small children. Deworming medications usually include pyrantel pamoate and fenbendazole."

local analgesia, not pleasant, but should be similar in discomfort to dental LA.
Similiar in discomfort?! You must have a maniac for a dentist!! I've had the LA in toes and it was agony - sheer undiluted agony!!
Must have had a bad dentist as a child as I have a dreadful phobia now, had LA to remove my ingrowing toenail and never felt a thing.

It makes a difference what gauge of needle you use, and if the LA solution is near body temp it doesn't sting so much.

I do.
Well, I wouldn't considder it manky, but it is slightly "Brembo" red. I was painting some break calipers and got it all over my fingers.

Edit: I didn't realise this thread was about toe nails hehe
