Info I glean so far...sudden onset, obstructive spirometry, normal CXR and ECG.

Have you had a cold?...could be bronchial hyperreactivity associated with resp infection...feels and behaves rather like asthma.

Do you travel often by air?...could be a pulmonary embolus.

Do you enjoy showbiz snow as well as the ski type...could be a silent myocardial infarction (unlikley I know).

As your CXR excludes a pneumothorax I bet it's the first one...
You are House MD aicmfp.

btw Anyone know when the new series of House starts??

The fiver or guinea (this is "private" after all )is yours sir.

Bronchial hyperreactivity can be addressed in a number of ways. Treat the underlying cause eg greenies +++ suggests possible bacterial infection unlike in OP's case and might merit antibiotics.Usually a chap might have a cough/wheeze/tightness alone (and obstructive spirometry...maybe a faint wheeze when chest auscultated).Usually responds to treatment used for asthma which we see (vide infra) resembles this condition.eg inhaled beta 2 like salbutamol (ventolin) etc, possible short course of inhaled steroids or even a short course of steroid tablets (eg prednisolone ).

This does not constitute an opinion as we just like cars...great aren't they?
