how fast can you row 2000 metres ?

I think you could reasonably round up and call it 7000!
Looking forward to getting back on it next week.
What setting / drag factor are you using?
It was definately 6999m, I was behind the curve and really struggling in the last minute to get to the 7km , despite my best efforts to stick to 2:10 pace and 20spm.Looking forward to getting back on it next week.

The lever is between 5/6 , I'd need to run a check of the drag factor.

As an aside , I am thinking of a motivation challenge / new years resolution.
Who would join me in a 1,000,000m in a year challenge ?
For 2016 that would be 2732.24m per day, so call it 2750m a day average.
I think I'll throw my hat in the ring for this as wellWho would join me in a 1,000,000m in a year challenge ?

Injuries/illness/holidays aside, I think it's fairly doable but still tough enough for motivation.
Is it worth starting a new topic to make it easier to follow & allow the 2k'ers their own space?

sure , maybe it could be made sticky ?Injuries/illness/holidays aside, I think it's fairly doable but still tough enough for motivation.

Fair play, but just a heads up, any 2000m time where you can row more than 2000m is not a time. When I did my 'best over' , at 100m to go I was starting to lose composure and just shut my eyes and rowed for as long as I could. I've since failed 2000m attempts for blowing up too soon.
I would suggest a determined novice male could break 8 minutes. Try rowing at 2min/500m pace and see how you feel.
Can't seem to quite do it. Started in september rowing twice a week as warmup for gym session. First 2000m was 9 minutes 30-something.I would suggest a determined novice male could break 8 minutes. Try rowing at 2min/500m pace and see how you feel.
got it down to 8:03 now, but can't seem to crack the 8min barrier.
Upped one effort to 5000m in an attempt to get a bit more stamina

Day 4 - 4500m 20" r20 (lwt male)
Xmas definitely took its toll! I'm thinking build up to 2 long sessions a week with 1 short interval/sprint session every now and again to break the monotony. Probably could do with some weights sessions too as I think I should be able to train more than 2-3 sessions a week

Checked the drag factor today and it was 90 - 160 at both ends of the scale. 130 is at 7.
Crikey did I really struggle though. Just had no stamina whatsoever. Plenty of stops for a brow mopping when I first started. Got to 7000m in the end, but I just wasn't feeling it at all.
Is it alcohol, generous eating or 2 weeks off that has sapped my strength?

Welcome to the torture machine that is the erg. Judging mankind for their every health indiscretion since the early 80s. On a more serious note, never stop within a piece (unless you actually have an injury/illness of some sort - 'mopping sweat' 'got a text' 'headphones came loose' are not valid!) - it sets a bad precedent mentally to 'give up' during training.

Another 10k today - 20k total so far. 45'29" R22-23 until 500m sprint at end.
Dropping the stroke rate really helped my breathing & I think made me concentrate on technique more as I was deliberately pausing at the end of each stroke.
It was also about 30" quicker than Monday - only about 1' away from my PB - that could be a target for me.
I've figured I probably need to be doing 30-35k each week - I go to my gym 5 times a week - to allow for work, holidays, illness etc so still 15k to do....

Amazing how quickly you can lose the erg fitness. I officially retired from rowing in July 2015 after about 12 years. I still keep what most would consider quite an active fitness regime, but erg abilty has gone out the door. I used to cruise a 60min r20 at 1:52 ish. Yesterday i did 3x10mins at 18/20/22 and i was hanging out of my arse holding 1:52, just for 10mins! No moral to this story. Just a real slap in the face for me.

8k r19 - depressingly at the same pace as I was doing 60" last year.
DTM you came up with the challenge yet you're the only one slacking!
Doug - you can't be planning on training for much more than half the year at that rate!
CDC - retired after winning the Grand at HRR eh? You could always make a glorious comeback this year as the standard will be much lower as it's Olympic year

6k on intervals today. Hard work & tiring. Sweating like a dyslexic on countdown. 26k total.
Continued with a lower stroke rate of about 24 on the 'hard' minutes & it's a real revelation how easier the breathing is. It's only taken about 4 years to figure out....
Have realised I am in danger of over training but I have 4 days off after tomorrow so I'll see how it feels back on the C2 Wednesday.
I'd love to have it done in 6 months Fezza but I know I have other commitments coming up in spring & summer so I'm just trying to get some metres under my belt while I can.
I'm kind of enjoying this!

I found that after getting used to doing r20 and then doing r24 and higher (for PB pieces etc) feels like your lungs suddenly have all this capacity you didn't know about. 6k on intervals today. Hard work & tiring. Sweating like a dyslexic on countdown. 26k total.

35k a week on an erg only is some serious going... I doubt many club rowers will rack up that mileage in the winter. On the plus side, depending on what shape you're in to start with/diet at the moment, you can get away with eating crap every now and again as you'll be racking up quite the calorific deficit. Although malt loaf usually ends up as the rowers' favourite.

Yes i thought i would hold out until winning the Grand....i wish. Winning a club event is a big enough mountain to climb. And i still never did it. You have to know when to sack it in though, or you actually become adicted and realise you're 40, training in a squad of 20yr olds and you're at the bottom end of the group.CDC - retired after winning the Grand at HRR eh? Been to the gym 3 times this week - Mon, Wed & today.
Monday about killed me, but wed & today have been better. I have forced myself to slow my rate down to below 30 and pull harder which is giving me the same distance as before, just that i am still struggling with strength & stamina.
New to rowing though, so still lots to do and I am 42 now so not going to come easy. Enjoying the challenge though.
Done 22k this week.
