Saw this on Instagram earlier - Eddie Hall (2017 Worlds Strongest Man) having a crack at 100m. He was a national champ swimmer in his youth so I wonder what he could do with some proper training - good cardio combined with massive all round power.

You wouldn't buy a second hand Erg from him, would you.

I'd happily buy one from him, he wouldn't slightly get close to breaking one.

Don't think he's going to be that close to the 100m record, it is 1:03 average, 12.6 seconds. Eddie needs to rate up - despite ridiculous power, I think he was still rowing at too low a rate.

Incidentally, Eddies brother James holds 6 british ski erg records from 1k up to 10k (and is a damn nice guy too, and I know I shouldn't be surprised, but him and Eddie do look uncannily similar)

You'd be better off with mine. I never bloody use it and when I do I don't stress it much.

Feel like I've "turned a corner" with regards to my training since December.

The PBs continue - knocked another 6 seconds off my 5k on friday morning, now down to 18:33. Think I'll possibly wait until the new season for another 2k trial, but am definitely looking at knocking that down to around 6:50.

Well done. Most people cannot do that.

Thank you. In the scheme of things it’s not at all impressive, but I like these small personal victories in the fight against the ageing process!

Ah, but it is though. Coming onto a thread about rowing, where there are a lot of blokes who row, it's easy to start thinking that anything above 7 minutes is slow. In realty not many people can do 2k in 7.30 ish.

Next step 7 then. ;-)

Kind words, thank you beer

I'll certainly have a crack at 7.00 but will be pleased if i can duck under 7.30 first. Finding an extra 3 seconds should be OK...finding an extra 33 though vomit

I concur with So.
My best is 7:28, I’ve just turned 50 years old (and a honed 99kg... wink )and have started on the erg regularly again around 6 weeks ago.
I can’t now see me getting below 7 mins anytime soon... frown

I am no medic but I am not sure that going from 7:28 to 7 aged north of 50 is a brilliant plan. I started rowing to replace a proper rower - 6:20 man in his 50s - who died on a Concept 2.

That said, 7 minutes was until recently my goal. But I’ve come to realise that I don’t want the risk or the leg muscles that come with it.

Any idea what caused the death? It can happen at any age but 6:20 is going to put the heart under big load, even when younger.

Ahh eek I assumed he'd had a heart attack due to high exertion.

Or he may have been decapitated by a low flying parrot.

Heart attack.

First time I've ever rowed!

8:24 for the 2,000m. I'm 6ft and 75kg. Regular runner and 18m 5k pb...how much is down to technique? I'm not being salty but I would have expected I would have been a bit quicker than that ha!

If you're fit, then you've got poor technique. Get onto Youtube and look at some tutorials. A regular runner with your height and weight should go sub-8 without too much effort.
