I am going to have to redouble my efforts now to get that sub 7:30 2000m.
You will definitely get there - and as MacGee says, in time you'll be laughing at the thought of doing such a slow 2k!

I'm still working on technique and strength - my form is tending to drop a fair bit towards the end of any distance, so will work on that for another few weeks before trying for that 7 minute barrier - primary reason for that isn't just the league here, but I really have to beat our gym manager.

Yeah, I meant to say your 500m time which knocked me down a peg, anyway, all good stuff!

Have been going to the gym for a couple of week and a half and have been hovering around the 10min mark for 2000 metres however last night I - according to the machine and the clocks - managed 5:57.5... I was pumped up and ready for it but surely there must've been some kind of error with the machine confused

Sub6 is very unlikely. .......very,very,very unlikely!

unless you are a God!

Check monitor on machine. you can achieve supreme results if you put a towel over the fan!

Really? Doesn't that just do the same as changing the drag setting (albeit to a greater extent)?

I felt like a God when I'd finished... I took a pic on my phone as well just to make sure I wasn't misreading it. I'm there again tonight so will use a different machine and see what my time is.

the towel stops air entering the fan and is worth a try for a laugh. I was on target for 1:10 for 500m until the towel fell off! sometimes the monitor isnt calibrated for the machine and hters a way to sort it..which I can hunt down and tell if you want.
Im not saying its impossible for your feat..but its a titanic performance which is usually level Olympic rowers must achieve...approx 6:10 is their minimum time for 2k!

Well, not been in this thread for a couple of years (that sounds weird).
And not been on a rower since my last post, so my two times are from back then (retrieved from this thread.biggrin)
But I shall endeavour to persevere to beat them...anon.

Well I had a crack at it after my legwork.
The time said 1.25 for the first 300 metres and then it started to tail off, slowly climbing until it got to 129. I thought I could pull some back in the last 30 but it didn't happen.
I felt weird afterwards, lungs completely used, light headed and my teeth hurt for minutes afterwards. Showed I worked hard, not had that since I did the ViPR challenge.biggrin

Today's effort brings a slight improvement and a place jump up the 2000m leaderboard. The last 100m was hanging on for dear life - I just couldn't drive on. All my splits were roughly the same. ~1:54. So just didn't have any sprint for the line energy left. I finished and recovered ok though. No dizziness, no nausea.. 7:30 is close !

You really aren't that far off me .... and I haven't tried the 2k for well over a month - last time was when I put in my 7:26. Got a boxercise class today, that'll likely be a good warm up in preparation for hammering in a 2k, but the arse is aching from some deadlifting yesterday.
