Just joined gym and had the induction yesterday, thought id give this go today to see what I could do so I could set goal to improve.
Age 38, 76kg
Concept 2 with the resistance thing on 8, I managed 8:38 for 2000m @ 27 strokes a min. I’m quite pleased as the last time I used a rowing machine was about 20 years ago at secondary school!

I want try and get down to 8 min or lower by the end of the year.

I'm similar but 92kg, first time on a rower in 20 years and was 9 minutes flat, so I have a bit of work to do!

Couple of decent weeks on 1 Million Challenge.

YTD 802,242

Did a half marathon in smidge over 1 hour 37 mins which was nowhere near my PB but pleased anyway as I've not done one for a while.

Aiming to finish with my 1st marathon so I need to get about 160km out of the way ASAP

I'm aiming for sub 3 hours 20 for the marathon. smile

Few weeks back I pulled out the stops again and managed a 3.16 1000m - which I was pretty chuffed with!

Did 2k yesterday in 7.20 without really pushing hard - so I think I'm about ready to hit the sub 7 min barrier..

On the scales at 151kg now - my weight loss is getting painfully slow after losing probably 45 odd kilo's. No one I knew had scales that register that high so I've not a clue I much I was to start with!
Has a lot to do with hunger/carb cravings after a big gym session - I think stopping smoking was far easier craving to resist!

So if your long legged , will you automatically row quick because your legs give you more push per row?

If your short what's the tactic , just up your stroke per minute rather than getting every bit of pull from each stroke?

I don't really like the rower but at the gym there's loads of them so i can always get one plus there strangely addictive.

Yeah - I can tell from experience when in full swing - it's all about the initial pull. Feels to me like a deadlift where you tense your core/abs to transmit the power of your legs through into your arms.
I don't start pulling my arms back till about a 1/3 or more into the stroke.

I seem to do 30 - 31 strokes per minute - mind I'm no expert!
But I always start my routine in the gym with 1500m - sort of treat it as 5 mins or so of high intensity exercise/cardio.

All this chat about a 1 million meter challenge sounds interesting - 3k a day or so for a year...

I did my second ever marathon yesterday. 3h3m16.3; first one (last season) was 3h09. And the big surprise - apart from the posterior pain it was actually easy. Average heart rate was 128bpm. Didn't even sweat, but then it was out in the back garden where we had no sun yesterday.

Sub 3 hours should be relatively easy, although I'm not sure I should be pushing for that - but I have some really vague plans of attempting a 100k before christmas.

When I say "easy", I mean that my legs were in agony when swmbo massaged me later. Everything in the legs was tight as <bleep>.

Now at 1.4 million for the season. And over 2 million this calendar year.

I was aiming for sub-7 this year but I doubt I will make it now.

I haven't rowed since 9 Sept until tonight, and did a 5k.
Need to get back on it so put in loads of power strokes - legs are buggered now.

My 14 yo daughter walks in from training at her club tonight (2 mile warm up run, 2 x 18min pieces at race rate plus cool down) to tell me her best 2k was 8:43 last year when she was 13...
I reckon she'd be almost sub 8' now.

Well I've managed my 1st Marathon - didn't make my target time but always next time... bounce

I can echo Clon's comments above in that - I can scarcely believe I'm saying this - it is fairly easy in that the stroke rate is nice and steady & the muscles are well in their comfort zone.
However getting the pace correct is all important. At half way I was feeling A1.
Nice and hydrated with sports drinks & the odd glucose tab - type 1 diabetic running out of glucose will have very severe consequences indeed...

But with 10k to go I got a spurt on. I can eat 10k's for breakfast I thought. Tw@t! rolleyes

I imploded with about 5k to go and only steely grit & determination got me over the line.

Glutes are sore today though... grumpy

That is ruddy fantastic! Getting into a comfort zone and staying there, finding something to distract you from the boredom. The marathon is primarily a mental challenge, physical is almost secondary - aside from the glucose levels.

Did my 7th half (the full marathon counted as two) this morning for the Crazy Bear challenge. Oof. I had naff all energy for it, arse was burning from half an hour on, so a little miffed with the time (1h31:42), but glad that I completed it.

My legs are absolutely shattered.
