Long term pain in right side under ribs.
Discussion
Update.
I have seen the specialist, described my pain, symptoms, and general issues and have been examined.
No diagnosis has been forthcoming, I have been x-rayed to see if there is a problem with my chest (lower rib damage, or any other issues in this region) but I am not better, I am very tired and although sleeping for lots more hours than normal i still need more.
The sleep I am getting is good quality, I am dreaming and not sleeping fitfully.
I have been given some anti acid tablets which I will try, but I am not holding much hope to be honest, my digestion and regularity has remained as normal throughout the hassles.
Meanwhile I am still uncomfortable and not really further ahead.
Grr.

I've had this. It turns out to be simply anxiety (which I suffer(ed)) from. No pain any more.
Interesting, I am stressed out at work and need a bloody holiday, I also have a bit of stress rash on my hands again that has not been about since I was a kid.I feel like st, I thought it was because of the pain, I might be in pain because I am hassled.
I am prepared to give anything due consideration.
Sorry to drag this post up again, but how are you? Did you get a diagnosis and treatment?
I ask because I am suffering very similar symptoms. My GP has referred me for scan (should be in a couple of weeks) as she believes it could be gall stones. She has also prescribed me Omeprazole to take in the mean time in case it is just acid reflux.

You could have gallbladder dysfunction, you don't need to have stones for it not to work properly ask your specialist for a HIDA scan. It is a test that allows us to measure the ejection of bile from the gallbladder, a normal gallbladder should empty by more than 55% under stimulation (fatty meal).
First time i've seen this thread, but i am in the same state. Had mine over a year now.
I have also had back ache and the osteopath suggested that my back was the cause of my aching under my ribs. Something to do with nerve endings there.
I'm not totally convinced, but if my front right aches, quite often my back does too or shortly after.
I had all the scans and everything too, but to no avail.

Hello
Hope you are well. I know its been many years you posted this but i thought i will still try and reach you.
Did get cured from this problem, i hope so. And what did it turn out to be? Any help will be very much appreciated as i have exactly same feeling for over a year now. I could not even explain it to my doctor and just living with it. Mine is feeling like something poking/touching under my right rib while sitting and lying on my back. I am perfectly ok while walkig and standing. I am fine as day starts and towards the end of day my right side is tired. I would not say its a pain but very wierd feeling under the rib cage [tragdogleg]Update.

Ok this is a strange one. I was reading this very thread yesterday as I've been having a similar problem for the past couple of months. Small world eh.
Went to the quacks yesterday. The online form I was asked to complete to get an appointment pointed to gallstones but he seems to have ruled that out. The pain could be due to a stomach ulcer. I had lots of blood taken yesterday and had to drop a 'sample' off today.
Will give me the blood test results later this week and prescribed some protein pump inhibitors (antacids) to see if the pain goes away within 2 weeks as apparently this will help it heal. If not then antibiotics then if that doesn't work I'll need an ultrasound and a camera down the throat.
Was bricking it before the appointment as my visits to the doctors are rare.

I get this, I have slightly elevated liver functions. Was told to lose weight. I did and the feeling went away. I put some weight back on and it came back. No sign of stones etc and I was told my liver didn't seem to be inflamed. I need to get some weight off. It feels worse when I eat large or fatty meal, not sure how that relates to the liver.

I have had a scan and it showed nothing abnormal except these polyps on my liver, I get the discomfort all the time, not just after eating, its better if i stand. i can be on my feet most of the day and be fairy ok, as soon as i sit it fires up with the uncomfort.
Its like i had as a kid when i broke my ribs (other side, back) sort of like a stitch or a aswelling pain.
I wish it was gall stones, it would be findable and fixable, I feel like cutting my side open and having a look myself, it cant possibly hurt more than right now.
It is making me quick tempered and very tired.
