I can't right now, not fair on the dog. If the business picks up and I can leave work then yes, I will get a new dog.

Walking is brilliant:

I've been trying to get to Mam Tor in the peaks all week, but the weather isn't having it.

Moved away and didn't need a car in the city, lost a stone straight off.

Working hours mean I need a car now, and I feel like a knackered wreck.

Someone above mentioned above, you get quality thinking time when walking in addition to the obvious benefits.

Flip side is I can turn the volume up to 11 and sing at the top of my lungs in the car , probably not the best thing to do whilst walking past the post office.

No better way to get to the start of a great hike than in a TVR with the roof down. yes

Do the AA not take you home in the van any more?

I walk from London Bridge to my office and back every day, and have done for about 3 years. It's only a mile and a half each way so probably makes no difference ot fitness, but as others have said the difference in my stress levels is astonishing - just having that time to think (or listen to music, or whatever) at the start and end of each day is a great tonic for the mind.

There it is! Get a dog, (lovely looking dog by the way!) put dog in TVR, drive 50 miles to big open space, park up, unpack Marlboro Lights (see health kick there!) and sit in a position where you can see the dog at all times, unleash dog and let it go bonkers until tired, put dog back in TVR, drive 50 'spirited' miles home. Job done, dog tired, you've had a great hoon.

wink

Hmm, you've not got a springer then? The concept of 'tired' is a bit of a give away.

Have you noticed that no matter how much you cover the passenger seat the dog will always find the right side-bolster with his paw?
No but I have always wondered why dogs hate people blowing into their faces yet the first thing they do in a car is to stick their noses out of the window. What's all that about. Still love that dog by the way.

Don't end up like me! I never used to exercise, lived on takeaways etc., and ended up with a heart problem. Now I walk a brisk undulating three miles a day to keep fit. I wish I'd done it before I got the problem!

I'm totally with you Chris. TBH most of what I posted was a bit of fun but with an arthritic ankle walking is never going to be 'good for me'. I have to partake in other activities to reduce the possibility of bulking up. I 'get' walking but it isn't healthy, for me. Keep up the good work. Johnniem
