What training are you doing/have done today?
Discussion
The above post reminds me - Tuesday, I did a pb with dumbbell OHP. Gone from the pink ones to the purple ones (white polka dots not full purple ones).
Actually, I managed to push a 20kg one above my head which is st compared to the beasts on here but given that I fked my shoulder 10 months ago and could barely put a jumper on in January, I am pleased. I couldn't believe it, tbh.

It's fun to take the piss out of crossfiters though. They're all so hung up on it! I'm on the fence with cross fit. I like the idea, and some of the training is good but I don't like the "our way is the ONLY way" mentality and the lack of techkers that seems to be associated with it.
A collegue of mine is a PT and a crossfitter. I overheard him the other day saying "If you want to lose weight and reduce your body fat % the one and ONLY way to do this is with weight training. Pick up heavy stuff and put it back down". Its so misguided it was funny, but I've had a lot of confused people that I've had to correct because of him!

Ah, I thought that was the only way because of PH! Felt guilty selling my weights.
On a serious note the general approach isn't that new or revolutionary, it's the packaging and the sequencing/naming of exercises and the cycles that grab attention, along with the massive enthusiasm people have for it. It must be good at some level given how much those who move to it love the approach.
Some of it seems a bit extreme and I have seen some very dodgy looking form - not that I'm interested in or bothered by technical excellence for the sake of 'correctness', just injury prevention - but it does look very likely to lead to overall fitness gains, fat loss and strength if done right. Some of the Crossfit gyms/trainers I've seen and rad about do try to teach and insist on proper safe form, as they did in the contest I last saw where even some big names.
I'm too old and, already, damaged and rickety to do it proper;y but if I were starting out again, 30 years younger I would definitely give it a good go.

How old is your colleague? I do know of some people who never do cardio and are ripped from just lifting heavy... but they're all early twenties. And probably have a very high metabolism.Gassing Station | Health Matters | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
