Well its that time of year when a lot of smokers consider stooping that filthy disgusting and damn expensive habit .... I did try last new year with patches but had a bad reaction ( rashes general feeling rubbish ) so thought I would try again this year ( I really want/need to )soooooo.....whose with me ? and will you use anything or go cold turkey ?

Perhaps we could start a list here of like minded people - what methods - a kind of blog to vent frustration and experiences.....almost like a PH quiting support group as I understand the more support you get the better ....

Anyone with me ?

I've ended up cold turkey a little sooner than new year, had to get a tooth out this morning and strictly no smoking for a day till it heals over.

I usually smoke between 30/40 a day and right now I'm climbing the fking walls after 4 hours. I have had the notion that if I can stop for a day I might as well quit altogether.

I gave up for 4 years and started again last year like a total knobber, seems totally socially unacceptable know, I enjoy it but hate the fact it is so difficult to do it anywhere (which I understand) so yes I might give it ago and with a bit of moral support it might be helpful smile

Im into my 6th week already, sorry I jumpred the gun
I have smoked 20 per day for 20 years and have tried many times to stop.
fking hard.
However, I cannot recommend Champix highly enough. Without a shadow of doubt it is the nearest thing to a miracle cure there is.
Doesn't make it easy of course, but it certainly stops it being hard

I may have to lock myself inside and throw the key out the window.

The Sun is out and I was considering going for a walk to take my mind off it, but I'll see someone smoking and have to kill them to death instead.

fk that!
I went for an operation last year and there was a strict "no smoking for 2 weeks" afterwards. Questioning them further the reason is that it lessens the oxygen content of your blood which could have a negative impact on healing.
As I was hooked up to machines afterwards I could see the direct result.
With smoking my bloods oxygen content was 99% and without smoking it was 100%.
To me, that can't possibly make a significant difference.
(Unless there is another reason for teeth of course)

I can handle the idea of not smoking for a week, but the idea of never smoking again? eek I can do 2 weeks easily, a month is fine, but ten minutes after my first pint and i will always want a ciggie which is how i always let myself down. banghead It doesn't help that drunk omgus is an impulsive eejit with no wil power.

May try again for financial reasons this year but i don't feel ready to quit so i always let myself down. Good luck to anyone who tries it though, and no gloating at the extra £7/day.

Apparently smoking can cause a dry socket after extraction were the area is not covered by a blood clot and can result in more problems. I thought I would wait until a clots formed before smoking but the fkers still just bleeding a bit.

I posted this in another "smoking" thread a few weeks ago.

You really have to want to stop, it doesn't matter what the reason is, health, cost, other people, anything, but you must have the mind to do it.

I've been a smoker since the age of 14-15. Sometimes a heavy smoker, sometimes very light.

I can't tell you the number of times I've "given up" usually for at least a few weeks. rolleyes

I once gave up for about 3 years.....& started again (about 5 yrs ago)

For many years I would start at Christmas & then give up when we, "the lads" came back from our annual weeks golf/fishing holiday in June.
5 of us...4 smokers. We smoked so much, the journey home was a blessing, no smoking, for me anyway.
I had this "routine" for 8-10 years.

Smoking is the one & only thing in my life I wish I had never done.

62 days ago I forked out close to £400 for 2 tyres for Trev, I also needed a pack of cigs, I didn't buy the cigs.
Since then I haven't spent £384.40 on cigs. Doesn't sound much does it but in the 5 yrs since I started again, that's £11,284. As a "life time" (so far) figure, that's £76,942.....I want my money back.....tough shicensored...idiot....oh yea.....you're going to die early too...tosser

So, if there are any young aspiring smokers out there reading this, stop now, it will be difficult, if you smoke you are already addicted. It is a route you don't want to take.

Get your life back, sure, every now & then you could kill for a ciggy. These moments will become less frequent & each time you resist & don't give in, the stronger you will feel & the easier it will get.

Don't see being without cigs as a torment....embrace it as a freedom woohoo

To all those who have never smoked & feel it necessary to mock in a self satisfied juvenile manner..........carry on thumbup

Just to update this......money now not spent on fags £508.40

By the 4th Feb 2011, another 2 tyres (when I need them) & my next years insurance is paid for from the "cigarette pot"

This isn't intended as a "smug" post, far from it....I'm still addicted furious & still at least once a day I could kill for a fag, the money at the moment is a real incentive though.

Good luck to everyone who is trying to quit...we will win thumbup

According to the NHS stop smoking app on my iPhone I would have saved £973.69 if I had stopped 158 days, 20 hours, 10 minutes and 32 seconds ago when I turned it on

Looking at this really does make me want to give quitting another try

The Alan Carr audiobook is so fking boring though
