@ Ben: Oh, yes - I remember when 90 seconds hurt. A lot. It's easy now! It's the other 28 1/2 minutes that fk me up! wink
(I had to get home last night and shower before having a work conf call at 9pm, hence why I was angry to begin with)
As for 3MOD, you REALLY ARE the Gazelle. I'm 46. I'd be lucky to last 90 seconds of that, including getting undressed! hehe

@ Foliage: Did you remember to turn around half way, or do circuits, rather than ending up 21km from home?! laugh

I started out with the intention of only running 3km last night as I have an injury, I was in a fked off mood, needed to clear my head, decided to stop (I didn't want to) at 21km as it was starting to get painful & I was running out of water. 21km in 2hrs 6 minutes...

My advice - don't do that.

it'll come, one day itll be better conditions and it'll just happen. if you can do 28 1/2 in this stty weather, a fine summers evening will be a stroll

i'm no gazelle, more a sex pest.

AND ITS fkING SNOWING AGAIN, glad i have a night off.

as a glutton for punishment, i've signed up for 1,000,000 steps in may. team of 3 so its onlt 333,334 steps over 31 days.
should be fun....not

Its a mental battle that's all, and of course being careful not to push to hard to soon and end up injured.

After the first 20minutes its gets easier for me.

Still hovering around the 34 minute mark for the 5k as I am still lugging too much lard around, but am concentrating on shuffling further as doing Leeds half marathon in 10 days

Last night was 8.5k in an hour with most of it going uphill, longer runs (13k/15k) at weekends

It still hurts but the 1.5 stone I have lost in the last month has made a big difference biggrin

First run of week one this afternoon. Not as bad as I feared and I have made a start.

Next one Saturday morning... Thanks for the inspiration from all on here.

31:20 last night.... when Runkeeper told me I'd reached 30 minutes, I was miffed. I'd convinced myself I'd done it last night. Still, 10 seconds is 10 seconds. I know which part of my circuit I need to speed up on, so Saturday I'll do just that.
The weather was much nicer yesterday at 10c. We've had horizontal snow and hail for a few days, on and off.

Stuart: you just need to keep plodding away. It will come. smile

welcome Stuart,
keep it up, the weeks do fly by.
you CAN do this, the mental part is harder than the physical.

was out last night, between a pair of horrific hailstorms. Week 6 Run 2. rather than beast the runs, i eased of 5% and kept to my route. the speed was much more constant and the 2nd 10 minute run wasnt as bad as i thought it would be. im not worried about speed right now, the solid runs are coming and i need to get in the zone.

63% to Sexual Gazelle. I think my wife is worried.

luckily she hasn't read this thread.

i'm going to be at my brother's tomorrow, he runs properly so i'll be out with him for the 22minute run. unfortunately heavy snow is forecast and we'll be missing out on drinkypoos.

tough call, i will report back.

Thanks Captain.

Run 2 today; regretting last night's wine now. Mind over matter before the Grand Prix qualifying. It will be done.

Cheers

Run 2 of week 1 done. I am in danger of enjoying this, although at 6 foot and 17 stone walking through the gym is faintly embarrassing. Still it is a start, to repair the damage of years of neglect!

I've been plugging away at it, but this morning I hit my first difficult spot in the second five minute chunk of the first day Week 4. I guess I'll just have to stay at Week 4 until I can do it. Just got a terrible stitch. I've run through them before, but this wasn't shifting. Right now, though, I can't visualise running for the full half hour... frown

I'm determined to do this, though. Not easy when you're my age (40ies) and when, although you're light, you're just horrendously unfit.

Horizontal rain stopped play yesterday, so I've just been out today.

5km
30:32 !!

woohoo

I've also lost 3kg this week. I've been on a special diet and no booze due to an internal exam at hospital tomorrow, so I think that's helped me too!

YAAASSSSS!!!

so close buddy, well done.

didnt get out all weekend, but did a shedload of walking.

Week 6 Run 3 tonight, It'll be quick so i get back in time for game of thrones.

my theory is that if i can run 25minutes, i can run 30. and once i master 30, then 60 is doable.

keep it up boys.

I finished week 4 last night. Certainly a step up in terms of effort, but do-able. I still find the first time each week to be very hard, the second manageable, the third and I am ready for the next week. Laura doesn't allow much time between runs now, so I guess she is getting ready to join them together

That's my thinking, too!
Good luck!

ETA: one of my workmates/drinking buddies has entered me for the JPMorgan Cityjogging at the beginning of July!!
It's 10km around Luxembourg City, including up and down the steps of the old fortifications. I don't think I'll be ready for that!

The hump from 5k to 10k was a lot easier for me than the jump from 2k to 5k.

The jump from 10k to half marathon is a lot harder. And that's more of a mental thing.
