Have the ice cream and enjoy it. Life is for living and this is a permanent lifestyle change and not a fad. Once your runs are longer and faster you will be burning so much calories you won't be able to eat enough to stop yourself becoming a rake!
post run i'll be meeting up with the Oslo boys and going for a big dirty steak on the company dollar.

there is absolutely no chance of me becoming a rake, my target is 100kg, i have 15-ish kg to go, i've lost 17.5 already over the past 3 years. its a massive life change for me but I am very agricultural in stature.

of course i'm having an icecream

Since stepping up my "3 times a week" run to 5k the times have been 38mins....30mins.....28mins.....26mins.....then 28mins again in the rain and wind on Sunday….I use Endomondo linked with a wrist worn HR monitor.

No over analysing it, no procrastinating about what gear to wear, just decent running shoes, shorts, t-shirt and lightweight outer shell...and "Just get out and do it".

As said before this is my first real go at running after years of cycling (MTB and Road). I have to say that as much as I enjoy cycling, I’ve never enjoyed doing it in the sort of bad weather that most of my running has been done in so far.
I’m finding myself really enjoying my running regardless of the weather.

Very much looking forward to my first official event this Sunday.

glad to read someone else sharing my thoughts. If you can do it in hooring rain and wind, it's so much better on a warm sunny day ( not that we get many of those)
and seeing your times drop... amazing.

week 4, run 1 last night.

was bloody cold out, but no breeze.

run the map logged my fastest max speed yet, although i as struggling at the end of the final 5 minutes;was more of a shuffle than run.

i have discovered a new pain though; complete body agony. had a good stretch when i got home and a pint of water then slipped into a coma sleep.

37% sexual gazelle, and you can bloody tell.

had to throw out a load of clothes, all too big for me,
I'm never going to wear them again, i'm never going to be that big again.

That in itself must be good?
37%! wink

I've done zero running over the weekend due to continuing shin splints. Ligaments are inflamed and treatment continues.
I'll try again tonight after work. I've not been lazy though with plenty of full contact gardening and a jetwashtastic session on the patio, path and driveway!

i feel pretty epic.

full contact gardening and jetwashercise are good aerobic workouts but the commity has ruled that these do NOT contribute to sexual gazelle ranking.

Yoga, get an app for your phone, do some stretchy bendy yoga, should help. It will hurt though, if your eyes aren't watering your not doing it right.

Thanks, I've physio on scrip and it's easier with the anti-inflamms I've been using together with an Ibuleve type gel.

I went out running last night for the first time in 6 days (Week 7 day 3), and covered just over 4km in my 25 mins time limit, so almost there!

Week 8 starts tomorrow night, so 3 runs short of the "final" 5k push.

Well done. This stage is hard but I promise, it will get easier to go at 30mins for 5k pace then eventually it will be easy enough to do 5k at 27mins. 25mins is still bloody tough for me. Probably doesn't help being 85kg!

Mega run last night, felt great, different route including halfway down a steep hill then back up. It was awesome, really felt it.
Got back home to a welcoming hot bath, brew and a cold slice of Dominos finest (You have got to have Pizza on Thursday, it's the law).
I might do a short run Saturday but nothing much until the Bournemouth bay run on Sunday.
Can't wait.

The trials and tribulations of a Sexual Gazelle (TM)

on tuesday i was working from home and tripped whilst running upstairs, my hand tangled in the stair gate and i dislocated my finger, what a muppet.

hand was still sore on wednesday so i went out last night. the jarring on my hand was agony, it was about 2C out and i couldnyt get gloves on over my Chester Cobblepot hand, needless to say it did not go well. i'd not long finished dinner and it hadnt settled well.

the 3 minute runs were fine and the first 5minute went ok, but the second just was a bridge too far. i ran maybe 3- 3.5 minutes of it.

downheartened I returned home.

but then I realised; fk it! not long ago I was blowing out of my arse doing 90seconds, it was a bad night in bad conditions.
Saturday will be better, and if i need to repeat week 4 so i am confident in doing week 5, why not?

40.7% complete. i'm taking the points.

blade, good luck for sunday, you'll smash it.

so close.

there should be a pistonheads t-shirt enblazoned with 'Sexual Gazelle / Magnificent bd' and you should wear it with pride.

laugh Cheers, Benzo!
I think that's something we could get done at Shotdeadinthehead!

I went to a specialist running shop in Hampshire today - over here visiting the outlaws for a couple of days - and I had a gait analysis done, and I'm officially "straight"! My shoes, as I thought, weren't supportive enough, so I've some funky New Balance things which should be better and help me against the shin splits too.

Week 8 delayed start, due to horizontal rain last night after work. Anyway, Monday, onwards and upwards!

I have applied to a new course at my local leisure centre, starting in April if they have enough interest.

I'm looking forward to it. Following on from your helicopter analogy, I'm not a Gazelle, but in helicopter terms probably a Wessex or Sea King at the moment. Looking to be a Lynx. Anyone managed to be a Wasp or an R22??

It was animal rather than flying machine related.
If I were a helicopter, I'd be a Chinook - with a fked gearbox! laugh

Cheers Fella.

So I completed my first running event, the Bournemouth bay run yesterday.
I Absolutely loved it, very well organised, weather was perfect seeing a clear cool day with a brisk sea breeze that was very welcome once running, as said my first time running in a busy group (great atmosphere along the run) the boost from the spectators was incredible.....Even with the busy start I managed to take 7secs off my 5k PB.

I'm already counting the days until my next event, I'm proper hooked.
Starting from tonight I'll be upping the distance on my "three nights a week" runs plus doing parkrun if/when I can fit it in.

I'll be bowing out of the 5k thread now and will stick to the "running thread", I wish you all the very best...keep on smashing it guys, you can all do it.
