Had this twice, once at 23, and again at 25..... Hurts like you can't explain when having it repacked, I could sit down, and probably drive within a couple of weeks..the extra strength tramadol also meant i thought I could fly.

Biggest bit of advice, let it heal in it's own time.....reason mine came back was the first time the doctors pushed me through the system,

Good luck!

Some of you guys must've had very deep cysts - all this talk of repacking, and taking Tramadol.
Mine must've been relatively shallow as I only had a corrugated plastic drain stitched in place, which was removed a fortnight after the op.
By that stage, the smell and discharge had ceased, with daily showers and the missus changing the dressing each morning and night.

You were lucky, very lucky.

Have a look at this thread to see what you missed!

http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

As I said in that thread when the pain killers they are the same as they give to women giving birth and they do nothing you know it's ****ing painful !

OP you are over the worst now just take note of my earlier post or PM me for any help.

My post-op wound was 3-4cm deep, around nine inches long and 3cm wide. It looked like I'd been attacked with a broken bottle.

The problem is, the longer you do the 'manly' thing and ignore it, the more it spreads, and the Surgeons ultimately have to do the medical equivalent of rust removal - cut out not only the affected area but the immediately surrounding area too.

I manfully ignored mine for about three years. silly

All the talk of salt baths and industrial-strength painkillers (mine was Pethidine and Co-Proxamol) takes me right back...

ETA - Oh, and the fact I was in a Geriatric Ward for a week as no other beds were available made it all the more fun!

I had one of these. Well by one, I mean five that occurred one after the other causing me to have to take a year out of Uni. As soon as one healed up (around two months) another came along. Was out of action for nine months in total, during which time I hardly left the house and certainly wasn't driving.

Depending how big you hold is (mine was large fist size each time) you could be comfortable driving again in a month or so. If you're unlucky (like I was) it could be a fair bit longer. All the very best with your recovery - hopefully you'll be back in action fairly quickly!

Wait until you get home and have the Nurse come round and change your packing, cotton wool feels like sandpaper hehe I had that every 2 days for 2 weeks before having to go to my local GP to have the nurse do it there evry 2 days, this lasted best part of a year.

Depends how bad yours was, mine was pretty big. Took 4 packs of that seaweed packing stuff to put in my "wound" before it was packed enough for the first 2 months, mine was healing from inside to out no stitching.

I was back at work after 3 weeks, walking like I had just st myself hehe

I had mine done in the summer of 96 after living with the bloody thing for 2 years. I still remember the agony of trying to sit through a film and then the embarrassment as it bled through my jeans. Horrible things.

Anyway, I guess mine couldn't have been as bad as some of the others on here! The nest of hairs was relatively well contained so the resulting wound was about an inch and half wide and 3 or so inches long but for the most part completely numb (I even stuck my fingers in it to see what it felt like - I know, gross). They did the same to mine as most people on here - packed it to keep it open and allow it to heal from the bottom up. They packed mine with some sort of expanding foam that turned solid so it was a completely pain free, apart from having to pull it out to clean the wound. The most painful bit was where the skin was healing around the wound, that was quite sore.

And I also ended up on a geriatric ward which was made all the less tolerable by some chap recovering from a reverse colostomy operation; he would demand the comode at all hours of the day and night and then proceed to have a crap. Lovely.

Anyway, I was pretty much healed after 2 months but I guess I would have been ok for some driving after a month or so. You really best leaving these things to heal properly.

Edited for bad England.

Good christing fking god! eek

I just had the dressing changed and re-packed.

I think that women must have it easy with childbirth! The blood had naturally ccongealed to the ribbon.

Immagine having a plaaster glued to your exposed flesh and then pulled off. That's roughly how painful it waas frown

For thise who've never had an opeen wound, imagine sticking a scalpel in your butt and pushing it in and out a couple of times!

I lived with mine for the best part of two years because my GP would just give me antibiotics as he thought it was a skin infection rolleyes

they had to cut a piece of flesh out the size of a clementine from the top of my cheek to get rid of it all, the surgeon was so impressed that he sent a letter to the GMC

My post op gash was about 4" right above the crack of my arse so I can completely sympathise with you and wish you a speedy recovery.

After 5 days of having the gauze ripped from my arse the nurse made a shocking discovery.....she noticed some gauze from operation still there , I was told quite honestly that this needed to come out and it will hurt like nothing else.
Having a dressing ripped out of your backside every day is bad enough but try it when your wound has healed around some 5 day old gauze!

But in answer to your question about driving......i drove myself home from the hospital...took 4 days off work.....drove to work every day ( i made a seat). In the meantime I drove to the hospital every day to have the dressing changed.
