Hello,

I’ve just come away from Lotus after test driving a Evora S manual year 11 car. I thought the car was very good apart from the sound ( with sport button on) and the almost clumsy gear changes. Now I have been told that you can upgrade the gear linkages etc and also have a cat bypass added to the car to make it a lot better.

So has anyone had these two options done on a year 11 Evora s car and if so, did it make a big difference?

The dealer did have a year 12 car onsite and the sound of this car was a lot better to the one I test drove! Sitting in the car the gear changes felt better also and the interior was a bit nicer.

At the moment I know I can get a very good spec year 11 car un-reg with the two options above done for an excellent price. Or do I wait into next year and try and pick up a year 12 car when they have been out and prices have dropped a bit?!

Prices on the Evora S seem to be all over the place and the brand new cars do seem to lose a lot of money quickly.

Thank you
Phil

There are several threads over on TLF you might find interesting.

This is about the various exhaust upgrades -

http://www.thelotusforums.com/forums/topic/28610-a...

And this about the gear change linkage issues (lots of technical detail)-

http://www.thelotusforums.com/forums/topic/52231-g...

On both issues, owners believe the upgrades are very much worthwhile.

Had both done on mine, gear change transformed and decat pipe perfect. Just enought to sound interesting but not too annoying in or out of the car.

Not seen MY12 so no view on whether worth extra money, isn't the difference between the my11 and 12 the interior trim once the cables & decat done.

If the MY11 is unregistered it must be a better bet than a used 12 assuming it is cheap enough.

I've got a 2011 S with a standard exhaust and had a decat pipe fitted, it made very little difference at all.

I would probably be tempted to hold out for the MY12. I found the difference to be substantial, unless the difference in cost is a lot!

Thank you for your replies.

Did you test drive both year models? What aspects did you find substantial to the older version?

Difference in price between them both at the moment would be about 15k i believe.

Thank you

I was told today by Lotus you couldn't get a Lotus sports exhaust for the Evora S, just the de-cat

Thank you

LOTAC05504 Is the sports exhaust for the evora.
Coupled with a de-cat gives a lovely sound.
Only down side is the loss of the noise flap in the exhaust.
Although larini do a valved version.

That seems an odd thing for Lotus to say, I thought the sports exhause is an official Lotus option, whereas the de-cat is an after market part (but I may be wrong)

The de-cat is an official part as it is part of the my12 exhaust system.

Kit LOTAC05539 can be used on prior 12 Model Year Evora IPS and S, which has a dealer
price of £103.40 plus taxes & delivery where applicable.

And im guessing that LOTAC05504 is for the Evora N/A and S models? It was a S i was looking at when i asked the question.

My Evora S 2+2 is up for sale at Silverstone Lotus.

Larini exhaust and decat, 2012 gear linkages, drives great!

Carbon Grey and paprika interior

All the packs.

Almost half the price of a new car!

Have a look.

Thank you for the reply.

Did you have the old cables in before changing them to the 2012 versions? How did they compare?

Thank you

Phil

From what I've been told the earlier cars don't get the exact same gear linkage cables fitted as those of MY12 cars as some of the linkage is different (routing and brackets at the gearbox end iirc), but there are revisions of the cable for pre-MY12 cars which reduce the cable friction in the same way as for MY12 cars.

Adjustment of the linkage is also key, the cables don't always need replacing.

LOTAC05504 is only for the S and IPS models - the N/A models need the LOTAC05538 kit.

Both are listed in the Bell and Colvill online shop: http://www.bellandcolvill.com/lotus/parts/Evora%20...

I had the gearchange cables replaced to MY12 spec as part of my conditon of purchase from Castles where I bought my car. The change of cables has made a huge improvment. When driving normally the change is fine on all gears, but when pressing on it is ok, except for 5th gear where it just does not want to go in at higher rpm...although we are talking about autobahn speeds at this point.
Having read the Lotus forum thread I may still have an adjustment issue, or perhaps maybe simply changing the oil may be adaequate. I suspect though that the synchro has been damaged due to the constant crashing of gears over its inital 11000 miles? I definately agee that the clutch needs to be depressed fully, so it may be a combination of small issues?...although it does not sound like adjusting the clutch is a small issue. Maybe changing (stiffening) the engine mounts may solve it because the problem only occurs at higher rpm, under load???
Brilliant car, but what a shame about some fundamental details?

I will let you know if Castles are able to resolve it and how?

Hello

Thank you again for the replies.

I have been doing a lot of research and its hard to come to a conclusion as it sounds like every car is totally different. I did try 4 Evora's at the weekend that were in the showroom and all seemed different when changing gears.

Im getting that i will save some money on the MY12 cars but its going to be a risk. Maybe waiting for the MY13 cars to come down a bit would be a better option!

I was drooling over that yesterday! If this were September 2013 I'd be snapping that little beauty up.

Did you feel a massive improvement when you went from your old gear linkages to the 2012 ones?

Thank you

Phil

My original linkage was not too bad but the change did make an obvious difference and I had no problems since then.
I have had a few TVR's, Loti, and a Noble and the overall package for everyday driving was the best in my Evora S.
Sad to see it go but off to Australia so got to get rid!

Happy car hunting
