Well after 6-7 yrs of Elise life I've decided to spend some more and get a Lotus that I can use every day without significant compromise. The weather has been the final nail in the decision. I've hardly used my Elise since October and having it sitting in my garage for all that time whilst I still pay for road tax, insurance, MoT, etc seems stupid. I'm going to ditch the Boxster too as its only had a little more time on the road.
My budget is £40k and there's a nice 'S' in saffron yellow at Stratstones atm. Just need to sell the Boxster and my Elise now...watch this space...

Go for it, you`ll be gob smacked how good they are, although like the Elise, it will get better the more you drive and learn about it....be careful though, they pile on speed without any effort, so watch your licence. Whilst I have only driven mine in the wet, apparently they handle winter conditions very well.
I have a yellow 2010, 60 reg, warranty until Sept, top spec, ex Lotus management car, N/A 2+2, Tech pack, Sport pack, reverse cam, power fold mirrors, full Lotus service History, 2 new rears 15K miles...thinking of selling...new baby...need premium 4X4.

CR gearbox?spoilt for choice really. The green and yellow works well on something like a seven but the Evora is just too modern IMO (although I did give the green and paprika one serious consideration).
My favourite Lotus is the 72 in gold leaf red white and gold but again does not work well on may road Lotii, certainly did not work well on the Evora at Silverstone Lotus.
hence back to black / gold.
I think the lighter colours work well with the black roof and sills on the Evora, takes some depth out of the side of the car which it needs.
Picking up tomorrow, hope is sunny.

Went for a nosey around at some yesterday. Even though I have driven one before I haven't looked too closely at them. I noticed that the entry/exit doesn't seem much easier than my Elise to some extent. I still had to move the seat all the way back to swing my legs in and out and I worried that all that lovely trim would take quite a clobbering in daily use. The boot is also about the same as My Elise although the back seats are the 'other boot' I guess and I have another car for carrying larger loads.
Inside I pushed and pulled and touched just about everything and the quality is undeniabley good. I know the press talk a lot about these 'low rent' interiors but the insides of all cars, especially the newer ones, was not something I think anyone can complain about tbh. Materials, leather, etc were lovely.
I looked at a new 'S' (dark blue, tan leather) and did wonder how many Evoras Lotus would have sold if that would have been their original press car. It was stunning.
Dealer presentation of at least 3 was very disappointing though with one badly washed car (forgot the wheels and tyres!), one with a largish piece of trim floating around the boot (this was on their most expensive model in the showroom) and another which had the battery disconnected so that when you opened the boot you were greeted by half the trim missing and a load of wires sticking out. How they think this is acceptable is beyond me.
I only sat in a few of the models but it struck me that I am going to buy a 'grown up' car.

Hi Anniesdad, I think the Evora's lack of success is now it's trump card, it's certainly rare ( green one's are even rarer ! ), but I just don't know about it as an ownership prospect. I've always loved Lotus and had quite a few, my M100 is still excellent ( other than the water leaks ), but he Evora is just wrong for me, for a Lotus it's terribly inefficient, particularly in S form, by modern standards it uses an enormous amount of fuel, ( I'm guessing that's the old generation Toyota engine without direct injection ), so I'd only consider an N/A. The gearshift is still not right, even in the new Exige S, and I wouldn't consider a dressed up slusher automatic when even humble car makers are offering PDK . Knowing my luck, I'd get the car that needs a new clutch, and that's going to be the best part of £5K. Because of my age and physical condition, I find them difficult to get in and out of, the doors don't open very wide, and once in, the awful twisted driving position ( like a RHD air-cooled 911 ), added to the terrible rear visibility, what on earth were Lotus thinking ? I hear lots of "unofficial tales" from people who work on them, much as I'd like to join you in your brave purchase, it's just not for me, sorry.
My local Porsche Center is loaning me both variants of new Cayman on Friday, and I suspect my money will go in that direction, fortunately Germany buy's lots of my products, so I'm comfortable with the not supporting Britain argument, and after-all the Evora has Japanese engine and transmission and a French body ! ( and probably the chassis extrusions are made in Norway ? ).
There is a beautiful Esprit S4S that keeps looking at me from the classified ads, and I'd quite like another, it would serve to remind me of Lotus's halcyon days when they dared to challenge the 'super-car" making establishment, but sadly technology and customer expectation has moved on so dramatically, I can't see how a small UK manufacturer can survive in the current market, there are only so many die hard enthusiasts ?
My local Porsche Center is loaning me both variants of new Cayman on Friday, and I suspect my money will go in that direction, fortunately Germany buy's lots of my products, so I'm comfortable with the not supporting Britain argument, and after-all the Evora has Japanese engine and transmission and a French body !
