I have a MY12 car and on a number of occasions something around the offside boot hinge catches on the panel behind the roof and as I open the boot it makes a loud 'crack' as if something is catching it. Its actually split the panel now (first warranty claim, here I come...). Has anyone else had this rather odd issue?

Nope although it does seem a bit hit and miss opening the boot on the key fob.

It seems on mine that when the car is unlocked you need to press the boot release twice (which means 4 times) to open the boot. If locked, just the 2 presses seems to always suffice.

Update: took it into the dealer who diagnosed a failed bodywork clip. As the engine gets hotter the panel and fixings expand slightly, just enough to make the front edge of the boot catch the panel. It's a known issue apparently (although quite rare) and so they are sorting now with a new fixing and panel (as the panel has split as a result).

Happens on my MY11 car from time to time. The part is called a cosmetic roof panel and mine has cracked too. Need to get it in before I hit 36k!

I have a problem with mine not releasing consistently....not confirmed it yet but it does seem to be worse when it is hotter.
The problem appears to be with the actual lock releasing....the solenoid works fine, but the release pin does not click open properly...there is a distinct difference in click when it releases correctly. Once clicked open, it does not catch on anything that I am aware of. Strattons say it is possibly the release module (whatever that is) having gone through the wiring and confirmed all is ok...which it must be becasue the release solenoid is operating fine.
Maybe if it is heat related then some expansion in the bodywork/mounting is causing a misalignment?

I guess there is no manual back up on these..but solenoids are ultra reliable...not sure about the key fob though?

Mine seems a bit hit and miss on the key but ay be fob or solenoid or user error !!

You can open the boot using the button on the dash but handbrake must be on . car stationary etc.

I am sure I read somewhere that there is a manual cable release also under the rear seat / cover
