Hi all,

After a 14 year absence from Lotus I bought an ardent red evora from murray edinburgh just before Christmas. Proper pics to follow......tell me I am not mad

https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=5790060255...
I had an Elise in 1999 brand new and kept for a year as i was working abroad and it did not get used....i always wanted another lotus and after various fast motors including 2 911 and 2 boxsters I fancied a change. Last car was a 997.1 turbo.

So far enjoying the evora, compared to porsche - slower, not as well built, notchier gear change but sublime steering and handling. The steering feels as though it is telegraphed straight from your arms, just such a go kart feel. Have had some fun over the holidays throwing around some back roads and feels quite stable in wet, not as reassured as the 997 turbo with 4wd but I found the turbo a little bit clinical and hate to say a touch boring

I had quite a few serious warranty issues with my 911 turbo and I lost confidence in it. I go out regularly on runs with the ph scotland guys and on 3 occasions over last 2 years I came home from a run on a transporter.

Planned mods for me are sports exhaust, black wheels, roof, mirrors and barge boards. My 2 wee boys love the car and have said its better than the Porsches.......it gets lots of looks

I had looked at a couple at murray and had a test drive and gave the guys my desired spec which was met.

Will probably add a daily driver as well to keep this wee car feeling special

Congrats, and interesting previous car. The Evora must feel very slow in comparison? Saying that, I'd still have the Evora

Your planned mods will look great!

Saw your Evora on the Murray website facebook thingummybob when you bought it, nice car! When I was in collecting mine from having its barge boards fitted Brandon was parking your old Porsche up in the carpark, looked good too.

You will not regret your choice....they are very underrated cars...mainly by the press who are sold on Porche and only look at headline price comaprisons...anyhow more to the point I am surprised you say a 911 4x4 is more reassured...my experience is quite the opposite having seen both a GT3 and a turbo and various other performance cars spin off the road infront of me when driving round a very wet Wales earlier this year, and I left the GT3 standing on a couple of occasions on bumpy wet B roads. For a road car you`ll find the Evora is extremely well set up and virtually viceless.
Happy motoring.

The old porker was a bucket list car but sounded st and I was totally fed up of serious things going wrong.....and I had a real battle with porsche this year as I claimed that their mechanics over revved the car when in for service, there is a thread on my experience. Lots went wrong with it. Radiators, turbo actuators, engine mounts, spoiler failure, starter motor, leaking door seals, diff a money pit without warranty

The performance was blistering, not much could compete with it but on twisty Sunday runs with a group of mates there was always only 5 mins between the fastest and the slowest and this wee car puts a smile on my face, I was never the fastest on Sunday runs I enjoyed driving out with my dad, the porsche I got fed up with, like the feeling you got when you needed to get rid of a girl that was beautiful but just did not feel you could live with (strange)

With the porsche I kept it over serviced and spent a right few quid on it, August service, mot work and warranty was 2.4k. I spent 1.1k earlier in year on tyres. It had 50k miles and in next year I was looking at major service, new tyres all round, front brakes and pads, some paint on front end and at front arch rears, and perhaps a new clutch and flywheel - probably £6k just to keep it running in tip top condition and in warranty which paid for about £15k claims in last 2 years

In the porsche with the sport button it was just very very fast that when you booted the car you had to catch 2nd gear quickly to avoid bouncing the limiter, the evora does feel quite a bit slower on straight line and obviously torque is much weaker but it sticks to the road like st to a blanket and having less money tied up means I can get a fast daily, save a few quid more buy a 4 poster in the garage and perhaps eventually add a classic to the fleet, I really hanker after a nice well kept 993 air cooled.

Sounds a lot like the experiences I've had with Porsches. Two cars, two engines going bang.

Still got a Porsche which my GF uses, but its getting swapped for an AM of somekind later this year.

You are definately not mad!!!

The evora is a great choice!

Is your car a NA or Supercharged ?

With those mods the car will look more aggressive and really, really good.

if youre not already registered i would recommend the seloc forum as its much more widely used than ph when it comes to lotus.

Enjoy the car!

I changed from a 996T to an evora, although the straight line pace and traction of the turbo was addictive, it was just too fast to enjoy properly in the UK.

The evora is just so much more fun at sensible speeds and far nicer to look at.

One below that I took with my iphone which shows the black wheels and just about shows the barge boards.

A few more here that someone took with a proper camera while I was shopping in Manchester!

Completely agree with the above and don't forget how rare they are!

I have still not seen another one on the road in the last 2 years!!!

The screen evora looks awesome.

I'll probably have another porsche in time, would like a nice 993 for the garage.

The turbo was great straight line, blisteringly quick. I had a lot of fun on a euro hoon to monaco but even on that i had a warranty claim in germany.

My evora is normally aspirated so quite a drop in performance from the 911.

Might have to have a look at the sports exhaust choices and the radium cai. It feels quick enough and lovely on the drive way.

The barge boards look fantastic in the flesh, not easily photographed though. Murray's fitted mine Stevie, I take it you're having yours done there too? Craig's a top guy, in fact the dealership is just great to deal with in general.

My S after fitting -

I've read quite a few reviews about the Radium cai on the lotus forums and it sounds like a really good mod with notable increase in both power and sound!

If you coupled that with a good exhaust you wont be a million miles off the perfomance of an S and will probably sound better than a stock S?

For an exhaust Larini get good reviews or probably closer to you is Jim at tubular!

Someone is flogging a cai on fleabay at present, otherwise I think you have to import them from the states. Don't think there is a uk distributor (unless someone wants to correct me).

Where you based Stevie?
I'm in East Kilbride and my N/A has a 2bular decat, sports exhaust, radium, barge boards and a difflow diffuser.
You're more than welcome to pop over or meet up somewhere so you can hear and see the set up.

No problem, I'm around all weekend if that helps.
Did it fit through the bridge OK? I've never had the nerve to try it!
