Hi guys, just wondering if I could pick your collective brains:

I've decided to sell my 2012 Evora S in the Spring. It's been an absolute blast, by far the best car I've ever driven, but I'm heading Stateside at some point, so I need to start downsizing in advance.

Would Pistonheads be the best place to advertise it, or are there any other avenues that might realise me more cash or reach a wider audience? I've discounted Autotrader due to the many tales I've heard of sellers being harassed by telesales and scammers.

Don't fear, I'll probably go for another Evora or V6 Exige in the States!! Am praying the Pound keeps rising!

Any thoughts?

I think this is a desirable car being a 2012 . Pistonheads and SELOC would be my suggestion.

Pistonheads Classifieds should shift, so few in the UK that anyone actively looking for oen will be checking all the classifieds.

What colour and spec is it and what price are you looking for?

Thanks for the info, I've always viewed Pistonheads as the premier UK sports car website, so that part is a no brainer, will also look at SELOC.

Do you guys agree with my assessment of Autotrader? What about Top Marques?

The car is 2+2, starlight black and paprika with all 3 packs, 20 inch diamond cut alloys, pretty much every option except IPS and it's not an MY12 interior. It does have the MY12 clutch improvement though and folding door mirrors! FLSH and 24K miles, used as a daily driver, so all niggles sorted and not lurking as they might in a hardly used car.

Nearly £60K, two years ago, I was thinking of £42,500 or thereabouts.

Any thoughts?

I would put it on TLF or SELOC as I'm sure keen buyers would be interested in an enthusiast owned car.

I think you've got a realistic starting price but you'll probably get chancers bidding low because it's not MY12 car even through it's a '12' plate.

Good luck selling it.

Put it on AT. It has more buyers than anywhere else by miles. Also do PH and maybe SELOC/TLF but don't expect much. Might also be worht offering to a dealer.

Colour combo should help it sell and you've got the nicer wheels too. If I didn't have one the same I'd buy it smile

I'm a bit reluctant to go the dealer route as I'm not part-exing for anything else. Might save that for a last resort.

I suppose I could give AT a go. And just ignore the telesales...

Thanks for the tips...

Give it a go selling yourself but tbh I think you'd be better off just chopping it in with a dealer. I'm in the market for an Evora myself and despite having bought a number of £40k-ish cars privately in the past, I would only buy an Evora from a dealer unless it was very cheap.

To give you an idea, this car from Lotus Newcastle is £43k - MY12, full spec including premium sport interior
http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/l...

If I understand correctly your car is a MY11 car despite being registered in 2012. On that basis I'd suggest in a private sale you'd be looking at £35k-ish - a dealer would probably retail it around £38-39k but I'd still be looking to them to fit the MY12 gear cables.

You could well be right, but the car is still a year younger than 2011 models and I'd be open to offers...

Mine has the MY12 cables fitted. Also, Newcastle seem to specialise in unusual colours - they had a metallic burnt orange one that seemed to hang around for ages. That one looks a bit 'feminine' for my taste.

Maybe I should get a firm offer from a dealer and then try to better it privately with the dealer as the fallback option.

FWIW, Murray in Edinburgh have a good track record selling cars on behalf of punters and I know for a fact that they are desperate for second hand Evoras for the showroom. There is a dearth of stock up here at the moment. Scotland seems to be a strong market for the car. Must be the roads.

Brandon might very well be interested. Give him a call.

I've spoken with 5 dealers in the past week (including Brandon) and they were all desperate for cars!

Having the cables is certainly a big plus point!

Why is that, exactly?

Notwithstanding that, there are several late registered MY11 cars priced around £39-45k that have been hanging around on sale for the best part of a year now. There's also now a fully loaded 61 plate at a dealer being advertised for £37k...so £35k-ish for a private offering of what is to all intents a MY 11 car sounds on the money. Of course, if a dealer wants to rake your car off your hands for £35k-ish, I'd take it.

Dealers are desperate for cars because there are so few out there. They only want them to dress the showrooms...it doesn't look good to the new car punters if they're given the impression.that the second hand market is dead...

The n/a cars seem to be selling quickly, doesn't help the OP but there is definately a market out there for n/a's at least, the catch is that there are alot of S's about at the moment. One dealer I spoke to says she feels like she is becoming an Evora Dealership and most of them are S's.

Because more often than not they need a bit of "attention", whether that be sorting out niggles, warranty work or whatever and it'd be a lot easier to get it all sorted at the time of the deal. I'd also be wanting a 12 months warranty which, unless it's still outstanding from new, isn't really going to happen in a private sale.

Another thing to bear in mind is that most buyers these days don't actually have ready funds and rely on dealer finance facilities

I think the standard Lotus warranty is 3 years, so 1 year remaining.

It is now, but I think is a recent change
