HI all,

I own an Exige Cup 260 MY '09 in nearly mint condition, it's the last of a series of 7 Elises/Exiges i previously owned.
A few days ago my Lotus dealer in Milan that officially is no more, proposed me a good deal
for a NA Evora already registered with delivery miles.
The car has really nice specs, it comes in Artic Silver/Magnolia leather, fully loaded and silver
forged wheels. The downside is that it is a '10 / early ' 11 model so it doesn't include some
important upgrades like the gearshift mechanism.
Also my concern is about that slow revving/lazy engine, is there anyone of you coming from Exige
and regretting it, bearing in mind that the Evora would be used every now and then on the weekend,
not for trackdays though

Kind Regards
Roberto

If they're trying to sell you this car, wont they let you test drive it?

Hi Kambites,

Yes, he offered me a short test drive, for what is worth a short spin in Milan, the car is still
residing in the showroom with wrapped seats. He also insisted to start up the car there, tryng
to persuade me, but it was not a good idea, since it sounded pretty much like my wife's ugly Fiesta redface

Oilchange,
The gearshift upgrade is a minor problem, and not much expensive to sort, are you aware whether
engine mounts were upgraded at some stage ?
Alternatively i was thinking to keep my Exige, take a Honda CRZ like GT/holiday car for the odd
trip over 100 miles. I have also just swapped my old Yaris daily driver for an IQ.

Regards
Roberto

Not all 10/11 cars had issues with the gear change, try the car and make your mind up mine is a 10 model and the gear change is fine, like many you read what's on a forum and think its gospel but there was no re-call notice the cars cable's are either fine or they are not it is not a mandatory upgrade plus any Evora you drive you will be comparing it to the gear change of the Exige......don't do it its not the same tight shift

You will be missing out on something quite special if you go and by a CRZ!

Will the car not be warrantied, so any minor issues can be sorted. The gear change was as much to do with adjustment, so some will be fine and others need re-adjusting.

The engine isn't slow revving at all. Its also much much smoother than the 4 pot in yours (I had a supercharged Elise).

I have an n/a 2010 Evora

The engine isdefinetly not slow revving of you hav ete Sport button, i hit the rev limiter pretty quickly.

The Oyster leather shows marjks really quickly

Most cars have had the gear cables sorted. Mine has, and the change is as good as a manual 997

Ok, may be free revving, but it revs only up to 7/7,2k and i don't thinks this one has CR gearbox.
Also the Exige is 260 ps (in ideal condition) over 890/900 kilos, The Evora is 280 over 1390.
Anyone with clutch issues ?

Roberto

Clutch on mine was done under warranty when the car was 3 years old. I didnt own the car then so I am not sure what the symptoms were.

Its a different type of car to the Exige so power to weight is not so good, but then IMO its more comfortable. Makes a great everyday sports car and I dont feel short changed performance wise after the Tuscan or my G33 which had 250bhp V8 in 800kg's

The drive train is good for 500hp, so why should clutches be an issue, other than through some manufacturing fault or mistreatment?

The engines are a lot more torquey that the 4 pots and have a wider spread of torque (so the power to weight is not a true indication), and in terms of noise, the V6 screams away at high revs in a way that a 4 pot cannot. I used to have 111R which I then supercharged, which was a great car, but the Evora is another level. I think for short journeys and honing around for an hour or so down some lanes, then the Elise/Exige is in its element, but the Evora will do all that, albeit in a more refined way, but it will also do the long journeys extremely well.

From my limited experience of driving both cars I'd say that's an excellent summary. Two very different cars.

Sounds like the wrong spec of car. If it's going to be a weekend toy then much as I love my Evora I'd keep the Exige as it's a fantastic bit of kit.

If it had later gear cables, close ratio box and a black interior it'd be worth considering, particularly if the dealer offered to fit a sports exhaust as part of the deal as they can sound great, but even so I suspect you'll find it lazy and slow compared to the Exige, and it'll start looking shabby quickly.
