The throttle map is changed in Sport Mode. Basically rather than the throttle angle producing a linear response from 0-100% as you press the pedal, you get 50% in the first 20% of travel (figures are a guess, but you get my point) and the rest is spread out over the rest of the travel. It feels sharper at the top of course but 100% is still 100%, Sport doesn't produce any more power.

I asked James Rossiter (when he was a Lotus driver) when on track in an Evora (I think in a GT4) why he wasn't using Sport mode and he said he preferred the throttle to be more of a precise instrument and wanted the full range of positions in a linear fashion as it made it easier to modulate.

OK. So surely retrofitting the sport button functionality is a software task then? Presumably that covers the traction control settings as well?

IMO the sports mode makes a big difference when pressing on and the car drives as it of has more power, you it certainly seems to have more power for any given throttle position, you can really feel the urge. Sport mode is too agressive IMO for town driving.

I actually find the torque a bit low, but thats probably because I have come from a 400bhp speed 6, a v8 G33 and, dare i say it, a 3.0tdi. I also find 911's and Caymans a bit light on torque smile

IMHO the sports mode transforms the feel of the car, it feels more alive when in sport. Out of sport the response is sluggish and I can actually imagine people who have not driven an Evora before being disappointed or put off by the feel. Certainly the dealers always hit sport before handing a car over for a test drive.

Would be nice if it were the default mode!

first dyno test I have seen on the sports button:

http://www.thelotusforums.com/latest-news/our-news...

Basically says the sports button makes no difference to power output (which is how it feels). The reason the car feels more on its toes on initil throttle opening is just the throttle mapping. If you want the same effect without the sports mode just press the pedal a little more....simples!

cheers

Yes and it uses more fuel = more fun for less travel...or buy a bigger pair of shoes!

Not sure if someone posted this earlier in the thread, but aside from the throttle mapping, sport button does raise rev limit from 6,800 to 7,200.
