Tyre size

Sorry for the numpty question, but I am 100 miles from my car, and I left the bit of paper that I wrote the info down on at home...I work away during the week...and I need to order the tyres before I get back.

Please can someone confirm the front tyre size...my missus has said it is 225x40xR18 ZR but I thought they were 235x40xR18`s...not that I do not trust my missus of course?!

Going to try Avon`s this time.

From SELOC WIKI - "The Evora is supplied as standard with Pirelli P-Zero tyres. The fronts are 225/40 ZR18, the rears are 255/35 ZR19."

If you want to ensure they are the same as OEM the you need to order the M0 and M01 variants as these are different to the standard tyres:

The fronts are 225/40 ZR18 Pirelli P-Zero M0,
The rears are 255/35 ZR19 Pirelli P-Zero M01.

I was actually going to try the Avon 5ZZ`s. They have a much lower wear rate, but similar levels of grip in the dry (according to one contributor...and there is a big poster in my local tyre dealer with the tyres fitted to an Evora, so they must be good!), and marginally less in the wet. It must be my driving style, but I seem to chew through tyres!

Can`t remember at this moment, but it was a regular contributor...it was on one of the threads about tyre sizes/specs etc a few months ago.

I am going on a road trip to Brittany next weekend, so will let you know how we get on.

I've been using the Avon's for a while now on my N/A.

I was getting less than 4k from the rear Pirelli's so decided to try the Avons as they were much cheaper and made in the UK.

The rears I've got on now have done nearly 7k miles including two track days and there's plenty life in them yet.
They're fine in the dry but not as good in the wet as the Pirelli's, predictable though.

I've actually just ordered a full set of Pirelli's again though as we're off to Spa next month and I wanted a good wet tyre as it often rains there.
I managed to get the full set delivered for £490 from tyreleader.co.uk - great price. I don't expect the rears to have any life left in them when we return so I'll stick the used Avon's back on and sell the Pirelli fronts.

I did consider Yoko AD08R's for the trip but at nearly £900 a set I felt the Pirelli's would be far better value.

FYI Tyreleader are currently selling the Avon's for £132.39 rear and £84.89 front - that's for 18"/19" set up. The ZZ5's don't come in 20's

That`s good info...do you notice any difference with the ride or road noise, or steering response?

Mytyre were quoting £86 for the Avon front 18" so I thought fitted, balanced, done properly with pressure sensors fitted correctly etc £105 each was fair enough.

Well, just done about 1000 miles of very progressing driving through northern France with a veriety of other high performance cars (Boxster Spyder/GT3/M3`s/M1/M5/Aston V12 Vantage/F430/F360/RS4 etc) and the Evora with its new tyres was easily the match for any of them in all conditions (although the auto type gearboxes do change down quickly in the Beemers and Porker if you have to make a quick decision, but that`s about forward planning and paying attention really with a manual gearbox). Biggest surprise was a complaint from the F430 owner that it was skittish on poor surfaces, so was well off the pace at times, and the GT3 struggled for similar reasons on poorer surfaces.

Back to the Avons...all I can say is I did not notice any difference or lack of grip in the dry or wet...if anything there appeared to be more grip in the dry?
Time will tell how they compare wear rate wise.

Oh yes and despite the advertised fuel economy figures, I was consistantly putting in less fuel than the above cars for the same journeys!
