Looking at getting out of the Boxster(986 2.7) And like the look of this http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/l...

Any thoughts, the millage is higher than i would like and i think its a bit pricey as i assumed i would get a proper lotus warranty on an Lotus Approved car but it not, anyone got any tips on what i should be checking on it? paying for it?
Thanks
Matt

I would have said that was quite a fair price for a 2011 car. It looks like the interior might be a little worn in places and there is no mention of a full service history, so there might be some room for negotiation. The interior can be re-trimmed and improved for under £1k.
I doubt there is much to worry about, but check the gear change (even at best they are not quite up to Porsche standards) but should be easy enough. Take the car for a test drive, check brakes/pads/tyres/tax/engine fluids. Go over some rutted roads and listen out for any clonking from the front end...some cars were built without the anti roll bar bushes being greased, so have worn rapidly. Given the mileage of the car, which is hardly excessive, I would have thought most niggles will have been sorted.

I bought my Evora in March with 38k nmiles on the clock, its now got 48k miles. Price was similar to that one and it was from the same dealer. Mine is a slightly higher spec as it also has the premium pack, barge boards and a tubular (loud) exhaust

They had some room for negotiation which I took advantage of, but be warned, Aimee is a good negotiator!

You won;lt get a full Lotus Warranty as the car is outside the factory 3 year warranty period, so identify any issues and Silverstone will sort them out. I asked them to do the full big service as part of the deal, but drove the car for a few weeks before taking it it. This will then reveal any issues. I only had minor ones, but they sorted everything.

I am about to book it in for the next serivce, and have one more small issues (airbag cover clips) that I need them to sort.

Make sure you get near rear tyres out of them as the cars eat rear tyres. I also had a new wheel where one had been kerbed.

Things to check

Airbag clips (the panel won't sit flat on passenger side)
leaky door seals check for damp carpets and misting
make sure the gear cables have been swapped for the 2012 spec ones
kerbed wheels
lipped brake discs
see if the clutch has been replaced under warranty many were
check wear to drivers seat bolster is not excessive
drive the car and check that it brakes in a staight line under heavy breaking (geo)

Look at the SELOC tech Wikki

Generally, Silverstone are good to deal with and prep their cars pretty well

I've just bought a car from Silverstone and the service and levels of knowledge to date have been superb. Seem trustworthy and know their stuff. Based on what I paid for my car and its spec compared to this I think the price is about right but there may be a bit of movement. It's right on the cusp of the MY12 cars so you might be better to wait and get a newer one - it will make a difference as the quality of the later models is considerably better. Depends if you can add £2-3k to your budget and hang on for a few months. Personally I think it would be worth the wait.

I waited for ages and then gave up, MY12 n/a cars are few and far between even much later ones at nearer £40k

Mine has done about 35k now and still running fine. The engine is bullet proof.

Put aside a few k for a retrim (the 2011 ones are very boring) and you'll be fine.

By the way Matt - when I went to buy my car last weekend, they had this one up on the ramp. They had pulled the whole thing apart to do their checks and make sure the car was fit for sale. Impressively thorough review of the vehicle - they absolutely know what they are doing and based on what I saw, they won't put a car out until its passed some pretty stringent tests.

Thanks Guys, would prefer a 2012 car but pickings are very slim on Evoras and there's not much out there, I wanted a 911 GT3, nearly got one 14 mounts ago but hesitated as thought prices would go down, I was very wrong ! Lotus would be a first and EVERYONE seems to like the Evora, seen very positive reviews, and ive yet to see one on the road so rarity is nice to have. Hopefully i will get a chance to look at it this weekend.
Thanks
Matt
