Interesting, none of the press reports I've read say this is limited to just the engineering side. If that were the case wouldn't they say so?
I've not read that either, just that they got rid of 300 people, how many did they have in engineering to begin with? FRO911 said:
I don't know what the numbers were but I'm pretty sure redundancies were also made on the car production side. i think the cost of production on the Evora is too high for Lotus to sell it at a competetive price
You should read what the new boss said “When I arrived six months ago we had 1200 people making 1200 cars a year,” says Gales. “We could not have survived like that. Now we are 900 people, and this year we will make around 2000 cars. Next year the figure should be 3000 cars, then 3000 for several more years. This will change the equation completely.”
I would be interested to know how many Owners made their buying decision based on the Evoras +2 configuration. It seems to me that Lotus have compromised the entire car, when comparing it against the Cayman, just for the sake of those seats.
Given that Porsche sell around 25k Cayman/Boxster models annually, it would seem prudent for the new CEO to address the 2-seater market, rather than titivating a product for what appears to be a niche segment in a niche market.
A shorter wheelbase variant with significantly reduced mass and an improved weight distribution with a convertible option must surely be a priority?

I have a 2+0 and as we do not have kids, the rears seats are completely pointless. With or without seats though, the rear space is very handy for storage and is great for bags etc on long road trips. For me the lack of the rear seats made the car a bit cheaper...which will also affect the resale a bit.
You can do the motorways in comfort, and then rag up and down mountains with the very best of them.
Apart from a better interior and fit and finish, I do not know what a Cayman has to offer that is better when in comes to actually driving...which is surely the point of these cars?

I like the look of the +2 seats but was offered a +0 Evora S which I bought and it is just fab. The space is really useful for fast touring, the net prevents things flying around. In many ways its more practical. Interestingly, my dealer said you can't convert a +0 to a +2 easily because the seat belt mountings are not there.
