Just in case anyone had any doubts about using the Evora for touring I've just come back from a road trip through Germany and it was fantastic. Comfortable on long stints, quiet (for a sports car) fast and very sure footed in wet conditions. We had a couple of cabin bags strapped into the back seats and small soft bag in the boot. My only gripe would be fuel consumption - otherwise perfect.

Had great fun taking on all the German machinery - they loved it. Anyone who's not yet been on the autobahn should give it a go - quite an experience!

Always wanted to do the Autobahn, sounded like fun.

...against the German machinery, how did it fair?

Evora held its own no problem, most of the time you're in the outside lane with fairly ordinary mercs and BMW's albeit doing 100mph+ The R8 seems to be the boy racer's choice over there - followed one on the autobahn and just couldn't stay with it

What sort of mpg was it you were getting? And is that an S or NA?

Keep being tempted to move from an Exige just because I am doing more long journeys but the amazing thing with the Exige is the performance it offers and yet still returns immense mpg. The downside is my arse hurts after 2 hours...

I came from a S1 Exige 218 bhp via a n/a Evora 276 bhp to a S IPS 345 bhp . Little difference in the road driving of either Evora considering traffic restraints. MPG is similar on both Evoras about 28 . Love the IPS which was the reason to upgrade

28 is about what I used to get in the Boxster S I had before the Exige so happy enough with that sort of figure. I dont tend to need a car for day to day, its purely for driving pleasure and the odd long haul so only a glance at mpg but I've just grown used to excellent figures in the Exige.

I drove an NA a while back and coming from a 240ish bhp Exige it just didn't seem quick enough. Perhaps I need to revisit.

Suggest you try the Evora on an extended test drive , more than 3-4 hours and possibly discover the Evora ability to cover distance in a very relaxed, quick and ( back ) painless way !

The trip through Germany was in a manual sports racer S and at high cruising speed of 90-100mph I was getting no more than19-20 mpg. Overall on general day to day I get 24-25 no more. You need to remember there is a huge power difference between the n/a and S (about 25%) so there is a price to pay on mpg. IMO it's the Evora's only real weakness

Sounds about right. I get 22mpg av which is fine for a 3.5litre s/c.

I wouldn't say it is a weakness at all, you can't expect 30mpg with that type of set up. All similar cars get the same or less (despite what manufacturers claim).

I have just booked my Le mans trip for 2015. Ferry to Santander tand then a 3 day drive across the Pyrnees and up through France avoiding the motorways. Evora will be fine for the job. I use mine as a daily driving to manchester and back, 2.5 hours easch way, a couple of times a week. The car is always comfy and reliable.

I average 38-41mpg on the Manchester trip (all motorway at 80mph) Thats better than I got from my 3.-tdi Audi A6

The Santander/Pyrenees trip is on my list too but next one likely to be the Alps. If you're getting that sort of mpg you must be in a n/a - either that or there's something seriously wrong with my car!

Yes it's an n/a. Best compromise as a daily driver doing 20k miles pa.

I have tried to do the trip before in the Ginetta. Sadly I had a breakdown 40 miles from Santander and lost a day getting the car fixed, so had to go by autoroute.
