I have an interesting issue.

My MY12 Evora S IPS has developed whine from the rear end at low speeds (below 30mph). Happens when revved out of gear, and on the move as well. Equal amounts of noise. Its worse when cold. Its not the supercharger - I know what that bad boy sounds like!

A bit of research online shows that others have experienced this noise and its usually a clutch bearing of some kind - reasonably well know faulty part/poor quality part. But as an IPS model - my understanding is that the car doesn't actually have a clutch - its a torque converter with a hydrodynamic fluid coupling.

Any ideas what this might be?

You haven't tried to make someone sit in the back have you? In my experience this is the cause of much whining in the Evora.

Sorry I can't really help. Sounds odd

Manual geanbox noise is more a grumble when under load at low revs, not a whine. Possibly belt slipping ?

Wheel bearing?? Although these tend to make more noise at higher speeds. Most things you`d think of would make more noise the faster you go...presumably there is no unusual nose above 30mph or is it that other noise cancels it out?

No goes away at higher speeds and when warm. Can't find anything about it online.

1) is it related to speed of car or revs on the engine ?
2) can you produce the noise when standing still with engine running ?
3) does noise change if braking ?
3) any difference when cornering relatively tight / hard ?

Not yet. Its a Lotus Silverstone being checked. Engineer I spoke to thinks its a power steering pump failure. Noise makes sense and of course its driven off the crank via a belt so it could well be making the noise on start up even when wheels aren't turning. Will know more in a couple of days.
