I have an SR IPS Evora which is a cracking car, but out of curiosity mostly I have just had a test drive in the 400 version. The car was not run in so I could not give it the beans but I have to say I was very impressed. The gear change is still not quite as smooth as a ZF set up in a BMW or Jag, but it is a definite improvement, and all the crackling and popping of the exhaust is great.

The question...has anyone got any experience of how reliable the gearbox is and whether they put the power down like the manual...I know they do not have the lsd but I was thinking about how the box handled the torque?

I am fairly confident that Lotus have probably tested this extensively and limit the car's torque accordingly. 300-ish lb-ft is not a lot for a 3.5L supercharged engine to generate.

They're all new cars so for at least three years they should be fine.

I have one of the development cars for the 400 with the IPS box, it's got 31,000 miles on it and it's faultless!

Clearly you like the car...did the car come with a fair few miles?

Did you drive the previous version IPS? How does it compare in your opinion?

It came with most of the miles on it - got it direct from Lotus and have been bringing it back to road spec (had to replace trim, front spoiler, exhaust etc) so i reckon I've put about 1000 miles on it. I never drove the previous version so I can't compare, but the doesn't appear to be any issue handling the extra power & torque. The gear changes under full throttle are more or less instant, it's a bit lazier around town but that's common with most semi-autos I have driven. I'd love to keep it but have to fund rebuild another 400 development car (manual this time) so sadly it has to go.
