I am working in Seville on Sunday evening, and due to the lack of direct flights from the UK on Sunday morning, I am hiring a car from Malaga and driving. Sunday I'll be in a bit of a rush, so will be going the quickest/most direct route. But the return on Monday, I'm in no great rush, and don't need to be in Malaga until late afternoon.

Can anyone with local knowledge recommend a good route, or road, or place of interested route.

I'll be in the cheapest Super Mini that Easycar will hire to me !

There is not a great deal of interest en route - particularly the flat part towards Sevilla. The most obvious stop off place would be Antequera I think? It is a nice town with quite a bit of interest and it is close to the motorway, so no big detour. It is about 50km from Malaga.

Last time I heard there was a massive queue to get in, and out of the passport control ?

I think I'd rather have a nice lunch, and practice my poor Spanish !

But thank you, I've never been to Gibraltar !

I'd spend your time in Seville as it is the jewel of the region and far better than any other place - regardless of the time you arrive day or night.

If you visited the other places recommended you'd regret it compared in Seville. I thought Antequera was a bit of a dump and has no real attractions, and Gibraltar wasn't that much better either - and certainly not enough to warrant the detour.

An alternative would be to take the coast road from Malaga through Marbella and then drive up through the mountains (excellent road, lots of twists and turns) to Ronda. Ronda has an impressive aqueduct and you can catch something to eat/drink in the lovely Parador hotel that overlooks it. From Ronda you could then drive on to Seville. The old district of Marbella is also nice and if you had time you could also check out the marina in Puerto Banus.

You said that your Monday has more time so you could do the above route in reverse anyway!

Thank you, I'm working in Malaga Monday late afternoon/evening, and have to get the car back by 5.

Agree with you re Sevillle though, I've been there a few times in the past.

Definately go back via Ronda, great road.
Or even better look to go back via Gaucin and Casares via the Parque de Alcornocales. Stunning!!
Also have lunch between Casares and Estepona at Venta Garcia.
Awesome menu del dia, about 5 choices of each course and 3 courses for 12 Euros.
8 Euros for excellent house wine.
It's Michelin recommended.
