My good news today was that I now have a Spanish number plate.

The bad news was that when I am trying to insure it, they are saying it is too powerful - Linea directa and MAPFRE - Alonso’s sponsor.

Really, its only a 2007 Boxster that I have owned in France for 12-years and only expect to use it for about 3000km / year.

Can anyone suggest a reputable insurance company for a car like this / usage?

Thanks

For anyone searching in the future then Zurich seems a good starting point.

A broker at info@justinsurance.es made the introduction.

Sorry bit late to reply to this. I am in Spain and have had my Boxster S insured with Linea Directa for about 9 years without problems. It is LHD which I imported from UK.

Thanks for your thoughts.

I assumed Linea Diecta would be the obvious route, as our house insurance is with them and used them before with a Golf convertible. So I have no idea why I was rejected, too powerful seems to be such a pitiful excuse.

I was seeking fully comprehensive cover, is that what you have? I had exactly the same answer from MAPFRE and so was really quite surprised.

Very strange that two companies refused to insure it. I have what they call “Super third party”. Pretty much all the benefits of fully comprehensive (assuming I am not at fault in an accident) for quite a bit less than fully comp. They would have covered me fully comp had I wished.

Thanks, that is interesting.

I ended up with Zurich - fully comp. with a €600 excess @ €569.29p.a. This is what I have paid in previous years in France. I feel certain that it would be cheaper in the UK.

I am paying €282 a year on my Boxster S. The policy has a €300 excess and I have never had a claim since I started driving.

I will call LD again next year and ask for their super 3rd party cover. That seems very reasonable. Like you, I have never had a claim and will probably do less than 3k km each year.

Good luck, hope they can provide a more reasonable quote than your current one.
