Hi neighbour,

What are you driving, so I can give you a wave if I see you about?

I am mostly driving a red A3 Sportback with a black panoramic roof and a square rear reg plate (US import).
Sorry for the delayed reply... bleedin' volcanic ash everywhere... sigh!

I've got the missus running around in the XTrail we dragged from Oz and my Senator is being matriculated (and stuff) as we speak, up in Alicante... don't ask.

And in a few months, hopefully, I'll bring the vette over at last!

Be nice to have another PH Vette here in Spain, I think that there is another PH Vette up near Alicante + me in the Islands.

Well there is another ZR-1 up on the east coast, owned by a nice guy named Jordi.
He's even attended at least one CCCUK Nats Day event.
There's a Brit I know of in Barcelona who also has a vette with him.
So, if I just know about those, I'd say there's a very good likelihood there's a few more.

I know of 3 here on the Island apart from myself, 2 Spanish guys & 1 French guy, just right for our yearly hill climb here (not),but I only know of 1 other Pistonhead person with a Vette and he lives near to Alicante and now yourself with a Vette,we could soon have a yearly Pistonhead meet in the sun somewhere on the coast out of the grockle season.

I would be interested to hear the story of the Senator. There are very few here who know about registering anything unusual.

Am I missing something about re registering the Senator, I have always managed to re register whatever I have brought into Spain from various Countries European and 1 American, and have never been blocked in 20yrs of doing it

I am not sure, but I have heard of people having a lot of trouble. My Audi is a USA import and the man who brought it in told me he had major issues. Apparently it went on for two months until he found someone else who managed it in a few days. I have good reason to believe that the matriculation was rushed through. I looked at a USA import that was registered very easily and quickly and the registration details were all incorrect.
I also spoke to someone who failed to get a Jap import registered and ended up exporting it.
My interest is that I am considering an old Caterham and a Jap import Merc. I have enquired from a few “registration specialists” who all claimed to be capable but turned out to be clueless. As far as I can see, anything without a COC can be a problem. It seems the ITV can fail the cars on almost everything eg lights, tyres, seat belts etc without E marks. It would get a little expensive replacing everything that needs to be certified. I say it “seems” because I have so far failed to find out the facts.

I can only speak from personal experience, but without a COC could be a problem, is your Caterham reg in the U.K. if so you will not have a problem, bringing a merc in from Japan not too sure about but if the vehicle is registered in the country it must have its own variation on a CoC.

For instance people bring cars/bikes to the U.K. without a problem and reg them.

What you need to do is go to your local technical engineer who works alongside the ITV people, your Gestor should be able to direct you to him, vehicles that are imports that are different have to be measured to see that they comply with the manf measurements then after you have the certificate from him you can then book an appointment with the ITV, who will then re-measure the vehicle yet again to see that his measurements are correct ( Spain jobs for the boys and more money to pay)
After that they will then test your car and if you haven't changed things for instance like lights then you will be given so many days to get them changed.

I had to get my Corvette measured and the measured again and had to change the headlight assembly.

I have registered many vehicle here including large motorhomes from Germany and Belgium and have always got them passed and registered, it just takes a long time if they want to be awkward.

You will get them registered, but you mighht get the run around if you don't speak spanish, Spain is all about "enchufe" being plugged in and having contacts unfortunately.

I am away for a couple of weeks but if you like e-mail me and when I get back on -line I'll answer any questions you may have and hopefully help.

Best wishes

It is looking towards Denia taken from a Villa I rented on the La Sella Residential site.
I think the hillside is called Mirabella.

Yes your close. Weather was good June and July although I seem to remember some rain.
Seems a distant memory now.
Good luck.
