I am looking for a nice Hotel witrh secure parking around Madrid for mid March, any recomendations ?

Get of at Santander at 12 noon so about six hours from there would be great, don't mind the cost too much.

I'd go for the Parador at San Ildefenso de La Granja which is aboout 80 Km from Madrid. Converted Royal Palace and a great spot

Six hours from Santander will see you well south of Madrid - and that's not booting it either.

Watch out in supermarket & shopping mall car parks too. I have heard of people emerging to find a "helpful" chap pointing out a damaged (i.e. slashed) tyre & offering assistance. An accomplice then grabs unattended valuables while you are inspecting the damage.

I have had that done to me in a Petrol Station, 2 guys pull up next to my RR and one is at the pumps pretending to fill up and the other one comes round the other side to me and points out the water coming out under the car, I get out and an say yes it's the air-con and at that point his m8 goes to the car door, unlucky for him my wife was the other side of the pump,shouting get off my fckng car very loudly, at that point they quickly get in their car and get out of the garage.

so do be very careful, there is an article/was some time ago either in the Lounge or Holiday/Travel section
