Might be wrong but i believe he is currently on £30K and has been offered double money, but it is of no consequence as he wants to, and quite rightly too, to go to a bigger club.
The figures I saw were a current salary of £20K/week, with the offer to double it to £40K. That's quite big money in the Lambert era, where reducing wages has been the first order of business (other than hold-overs like Given and Ireland) - but it's still chicken feed compared to what the big clubs can afford. Rumour has it that Benteke fancies a move to Spurs. The commonly held view is that it's being entirely driven by his agent.
I think I posted in here a month or two back saying it was inevitable he would go, but rather hoped it would be after another season. It's just the way of the world, I guess - players hold all the cards and they constantly have agents whispering in their ear about bigger clubs, bigger salary and bonuses and the prospect of European football.
Villa is just another one of the feeder clubs for the top 4-5 now, as much as it pains me to say it....

Unfortunately we always have been and always will be a feeder club to the clubs that are prepared to run their clubs into extreme debt, i say that rather than bigger clubs, because i don't believe that they are bigger, just have more money too waste and lose.Rumour has it that Benteke fancies a move to Spurs. But i wish CB good luck in his travels, i for one wish he would go to Chelsea and we get Lukaku in exchange

I hope we get one more season from Benteke, but it doesn't seem likely. All agents are after is money and how do they earn it? Getting their clients transfers. His agent fee would be huge on a deal like this with a likely transfer fee of £20M-£25M. Cha-fking-ching.

The current strategy of giving young players a chance while paying relatively low wages is always going to end in this. Those who don't perform at the high levels needed to get Villa at the top end of the table will stay those who prove themselves on the pitch will do their best to get to a bigger/higher paying club.I can't see how the currently strategy of focusing on youth is going to improve the quality of the team on the pitch, although it may lead to a healthier balance sheet.
Even if we aren't willing/able to pay large transfer fees I think there is a need to pay large wages to retain talent.

I have to be honest and say i would rather be a Villa fan than a Man City/Chelsea fan any day, at least a vast majority of the Villa Supporters genuinely follow the club and have an affiliation to it, where as that probably only applies to 10-15% of the above mention clubs the balance of those supporters probably have never stood on a terrace on a wet cold night in November.I can't see how the currently strategy of focusing on youth is going to improve the quality of the team on the pitch, although it may lead to a healthier balance sheet.

Yes, I think so.
Although in reality it's a bit of an irrelevance - he will doubtless have at least doubled his salary, which is probably of more interest to him. Length of unexpired contract is a bit by-the-by once a player decides he wants out.......
I still think he'll be off this time next year if he has a decent World Cup.

Another season like the last one and a decent world cup and we will be talking £50 Million + for him. Spurs missing out on David Villa and now Benteke because of going in a bit lack lustre. Wonder what Gareth Bale is thinking, no top quality recruits yet and two players not joining. There's still a long time to go in this transfer window.

What, Brazil's current flavour of the month and voted 3rd best player at the confederations cup isn't a top quality recruit?!?!
Wow, Villa's standards have risen dramatically while I wasn't watching...

We've managed to keep our man of the moment, I think yours will get his head turned before the transfer window is over.
Our standards have dropped way below that of O'Neill's time in charge where we were in a similar positon to you nearly squeezing a fourth spot and performing consistently through the season.

I don't think he'll be worth quite that much, more like £30M than £50M I would think. Really happy he's signed on though and seriously surprised too.

That carrol bloke from Newcastle fetched £35 Million on that score alone Benteke is worth £50 Million lol when you look how much torres went for you can't say he wouldn't be worth it if he carries on the way he started.Spurs missing out on David Villa and now Benteke because of going in a bit lack lustre. Shall we have a league position prediction guessing game.
I'm going for 5th and that's not just wishful thinking. Now we have kept the beast and added some more quality to the team the excellent football we played towards the end of the season can carry on into the new season. Also our young lions have now got some very good experience of premiership pressure behind them.
I don't think we will have many clean sheets or my prediction would have been top 4
I am so confident I will donate £1 to charity for every place we finish below my predicted position.

Can't really see why it won't be more of the same as last season. Where you finish in the league is closely related to the wages you pay.
You think ? Newcastle ? QPR ? Sunderland an then there is WBA Swansea Norwich and Everton all in the top half ?http://soccermetrica.blogspot.co.uk/2013/03/premie...
Although Villa are a club under performing when you look at the wage bill, so that's a sign of hope, however the current strategy at the club is to reduce it.
