I would rather not have McLeish, but if that's who Lerner hires than I'll back him unless/until results prove otherwise. If we wait much longer we risk losing a second successive pre-season, which we cannot afford to do

My lad supports Villa and he was opposed to McLeish coming in, but now he is appointed you just have to get on with it. If he gets off to a good start all this will be forgotten. Fans are pretty fickle....

especially villa fans  see who comes in player wise. lots of calls for ben foster but i doubt small heath would sell him to villa. at least its not a last minute thing like the oneill/houllier thing where the whole pre-season was left out.

Downing or Young?? i think the problem with downing was he stayin at boro a few seasons too long. if he moved earlier to a bigger club he would've been alot better.

I think the answer to your question would most definitely Young is the better player, his all round game is more polished and his work rate is phenomenal, and his biggest asset has to be the ability to change a game, the down side to his game is that he is not a team player, but i suppose thats what makes him stand out.

The reason I asked is I remember reading a thread during the season with Villa fans saying Downing was having a better season or is more effective than Young!

Sorry fella, i didn't mean to be so terse in my reply , just that you never see the likes of Man u , Arsenal or Chelsea in for him . I'm not a fan of his , i do hope you sign him , because i cringe every time my team are linked with him

9.5m is b  ks, he's worth nearly twice that. Disappointed in Dave Whelan, who said he wouldn't let him go for less than 10m and to a club challenging for silverware (no offence). Cracking player though, hope he shines for you next season.

really surprised at the valuation though - he's much better than downing so i dont know a) why liverpool didnt go for him b) why only 10m?!

He only has one year left on his contract, so i suppose wigan have to cash in.
Seems a great buy to me for the Villa, considering some of the crazy fees that are being paid this close seasn
