Don't get me wrong - I'm no particular fan of Randy Lerner but you're just plain wrong in suggesting that he hasn't funded the club.
Look at the figures here for spending in the transfer market:

It's depressing reading some of theose incoming transfers. If we take 2010 as the point it all started going downhill, looking at some of those signings: Look at the figures here for spending in the transfer market:
http://www.transferleague.co.uk/premiership-transf...
Makoun £6.2m - did nothing, since left on a free
Bent £18m almost single-handedly saved us from relgation in his first season, subsequently frozen out, then loaned to Fulham, future uncertain. Probably leave on a free.
Ireland £8m - bigtime charlie living off one decent season at Man City, left on a free
Benteke £10m - arrived promising greatness, good at first, fading to disinterest and then injured for critical half of this season
Approx £40million on players on big wages that (Bent apart) haven't justified anywhere near the spend on them. Benteke aside, everybody Lambert has signed has been £2m - £4m Championship level players, because that's the budget he's been given to work with. No surprises then than we've almost elnded up in The Championship.

I'd see Villa differently as the city is large, the opportunity massive and there is a history to build on.....
How long will Lambert last?
I'd say Lambert's a goner as soon as a new owner comes in, if not before. His coaching team getting suspended (various rumours as to why) is a further nail in the coffin in any case. How long will Lambert last?
Up until 2010 our (18yr) average Premier League finish was 8th. If you asked most Villa fans they'd be happy with that, respectable top half of the table consistency, an occasional flirt with the UEFA Cup (as was), an awayday in Sweden against some part-time postmen going out on away goals, a good run in the domestic cups and once or twice a season beating one of the big boys in the League. That's been Villa for the last 20yrs. It would be nice to get back to just that, that has to be our first ambition.

He paid £64 for the club and got the club to repay that debt and i think that tv income and player sales would cover the rest.

Accounts for the year to 31 May 2013
Ownership: Owned by Randy Lerner, via Reform Acquisitions LLC, a USA company.
Turnover: 10th in league, £84m (up from £80m in 2012)
Gate and matchday: £13m
TV and broadcasting: £46m
Commercial: £16m
Uefa pool money: £0.5m
Wage bill: 8th highest, £72m (up from £70m)
Wages as proportion of turnover: 85.7%
Loss before tax: £52m (following £18m loss in 2011-12)
Net debt: £189m
Interest payable: £1m
Highest paid director: £251,000 to unnamed director (Paul Faulkner is the chief executive)
The state it's in: Punishing loss for a 13th-place finish, and for the club's owner Randy Lerner, whose venture into English football ownership has been expensive. Lerner's holding company increased its lending by £42m to £179m, on top of millions already invested in shares since he bought the club in 2006. In December Lerner waived repayment of £90m in loans. The accounts state a commitment to reducing player costs overall while giving manager Paul Lambert £19m to spend on players last summer, but for Lerner the early feelgood seasons and sixth place finishes must feel like a honeymoon long ago.

Those 6th places do feel like a honeymoon long ago. I was a season ticket holder during those years and didn't renew for the season when O'Neill left. It became apparent at that point we weren't going to improve the team further, but sell the best players.
Any potential buyers coming to light yet?

How can you buy a football club for £64 million and create £179 million of debt for going backwards?
When you look at how much O'Neill paid for truly mediocre players, it's not hard to see where most of that money was pissed up the wall .....Sad to see us like this
Just read a local newspaper from last weekend that puts villa's income at £116 million for the 2013/14 season. If that's the case and then the figures we previously seen would be just income from the premier league.
Anyway even given this new figure how would he think it would be worth £200 Million and would he also be passing on the debt or clearing it first?

I wish it had a price I have had to ask. Also it looks like joe Cole is heading our way and a deal for barton is on the table if QPR go for it.

Joe Cole is a good signing. If this was 2004! I give it 6 games before he's a permanent fixture on the treatment table. Please tell me that at 32 that clueless oaf Faulkner isn't giving him a 5yr deal. I think players will respond a lot better to a man who has won everything there is to win in European Football than a couple of dinosaurs that have won nothing.
I know Roy Keane had his critics as a manager, but I see it that he took on too much, too soon. Even the two great managers he played under Clough and Ferguson started their managerial careers at a far lower level, I just think Keane was offered and took two big managerial jobs with Ipswich and Sunderland far too early.
I'm taking an optimistic view - we can benefit from him, and he can benefit from us, the pressure of being a No.2 nowhere near as much as being the Manager. Maybe it's a step in the right direction for both?
What I like most about Keane is that he's a winner, not some plucky loser. Our midfield has been woeful since Petrov unfortunately had to hang up his boots, if Keane can inject some of his playing skill into our team as a coach then it's surely a positive?
UTV!

Paul Faulkner leaving as CEO - hallelujah!
I see his appointment as the beginning of our current demise, he presided over a number of key decisons that have gone wrong, not least the signing of Alex McLeish. He is the Smithers to Randy Lerner's Monty Burns, knows bugger all about football and only got the gig through being Lerner's kiss-ass at MBNA. Hopefully an incoming CEO with some actual football experience will know what he's doing.

There was vague hints of that during last season - but not week in, week out, no.
It doesn't help that the other centre-halves that are paired with him tend to be rubbish.....
Yeah I imagine its hard doing it all yourself... certainly looked to have every attribute last night It doesn't help that the other centre-halves that are paired with him tend to be rubbish.....
